The predecessor is the University of Agriculture and Forestry, established in 1956, is the leading training and research institution in the field of Agriculture - Forestry - Fisheries in Vietnam, after 68 years of construction and development, Vietnam Academy of Agriculture has reached new heights, promoting university autonomy; with 68 years of development, Vietnam Academy of Agriculture has trained 69 courses of students. In the 2024-2025 school year, the 69th course of students of the Academy has enrolled.
General Secretary and President To Lam attended and delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the new school year 2024-2025 of the Vietnam National Academy of Agriculture and the inauguration of the Project to enhance science and technology training capacity.
This school year, the Academy welcomes more than 6,000 students, the 69th course students are integrating with more than 20,000 students studying diligently in lecture halls and laboratories with modern and convenient equipment. Accompanying the students are nearly 1,300 staff members, including nearly 700 lecturers and scientists with high academic titles and degrees: PhDs, senior lecturers, associate professors, professors... with a love for the profession and students.
Teachers and students of the Academy are determined to make the most of intellectual resources and material resources to continue promoting fundamental and comprehensive innovation in training, research, and transfer of scientific and technological advances into life to meet the development goals in the new era of the country...

Speaking at the ceremony, the General Secretary and President praised the great achievements that the agriculture and rural development sector has achieved in recent times, contributing to the successful implementation of the Resolutions of the Central Executive Committee and the Politburo on agriculture, farmers and rural areas, maintaining national food security, making an important contribution to ensuring global food security, and taking the lead in creating circular agriculture, low carbon, and green growth. In that common achievement, there is an outstanding and comprehensive contribution from the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture.

After analyzing the epochal changes in the world and regional situation, which have created many advantages, difficulties and challenges for the cause of building, protecting and developing the country in the coming time, the General Secretary and President emphasized that with the foundation, potential, position and international prestige that have been built, our country is entering a new era with the aspirations of the Vietnamese people to rise up, suggesting that the Agriculture and Rural Development sector in general and the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture in particular need to deeply perceive the new historical starting point vision, clearly define their roles and responsibilities to constantly innovate, strive to rise strongly, progress with the times, and contribute to building an increasingly rich, prosperous, civilized and happy country.
The Party and the State have repeatedly affirmed that education and training are the top national policies, and that science and technology are key to the development and prosperity of the country. Therefore, universities must be an important entity in the national innovation system, meeting the requirements of the knowledge economy, circular economy and digital transformation.
The General Secretary and President suggested that in the coming time, the Academy must strive to not only be the country's leading training and research center but also a prestigious university in the region and the world, a center of innovation, and a trusted address for national startups.
In addition, the Academy also needs to develop a comprehensive development project with a suitable roadmap to become a university following the model of advanced research universities in the world. To do so, ministries and branches, first of all the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and the Ministry of Finance are responsible for guiding and supporting the Academy in developing and organizing the effective implementation of this project.
On this occasion, General Secretary and President To Lam also requested universities nationwide, including the Agricultural Academy, to actively improve the quality of training, ensure compatibility, integration, and internationalization of training programs according to advanced standards as soon as possible; continue to innovate training content and methods in line with the era of the 4th industrial revolution and national digital transformation.
It is recommended that the Ministry of Education and Training and relevant ministries and branches continue to research and issue policies so that universities can fully and synchronously implement university autonomy, so that our country can soon have a university education system that can "stand shoulder to shoulder with the world powers".
