To combat the threat of extremism, the FIS monitors the Internet through close cooperation with foreign intelligence agencies.
The Director of the Swiss Federal Intelligence Service (FIS), Christian Dussey, recently said that the threat of terrorist attacks from young jihadists in the country has increased since early 2024.
In a media interview, Mr. Dussey mentioned the call by the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) terrorist group to organize terrorist attacks in Europe. The FIS director analyzed: "That call has really created a new momentum for the supporters and spread on social media platforms. I see the risk of an attack in Switzerland, it could be an isolated act of violence and this type of element is inspired by the call for jihad."
According to the head of the FIS, around 30 arrests related to Islamist terrorist threats have been made in Europe since the beginning of this year. “It is clear that IS is trying to use young people to gain popularity on social media platforms and increase their following. In addition, attention should be paid to people with psychological problems in their lives,” Dussey explained.
To combat the threat of extremism, the FIS monitors the Internet through close cooperation with foreign intelligence agencies. According to Mr. Dussey, nearly 20,000 intelligence notes are exchanged annually between the FIS and its foreign intelligence partners.
