Specifically, at the beginning of the school year, schools will organize additional optional activities for the school program. This must be done in a public, transparent, democratic and voluntary manner. The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has issued a document guiding that all additional activities according to the school program must be carried out on the voluntary basis of parents, and can be re-arranged. "Schools absolutely must not allow students to participate in classes with foreign teachers even though their families do not want them to. If this situation occurs, the principal must take responsibility" - the Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City affirmed.
At the conference, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted shared its experience in implementing flexible classes to meet the learning needs of students' chosen subjects. Therefore, each student will have a separate timetable, during which time they can study subjects voluntarily.

However, in reality, some schools implement "combo" programs, in which the class must learn English, IT, music, drawing, etc. Such implementation is wrong.
According to Mr. Hieu, the addition of subjects must be voluntary. Parents register in groups of activities and groups of additional subjects. From there, the school arranges classes according to the wishes of the parents and the interests and abilities of the students.
"I suggest that school principals must listen carefully. Because schools are places that create conditions for students to study the right subjects that they are good at and that their parents want. However, they must still follow the school's orientation for basic and fundamental subjects," Mr. Hieu added.
According to the Director of the Department of Education and Training, the principal does not sign a contract with the company to implement the program in the school. "The principal plans to organize additional professional activities such as English, IT, life skills and parents choose which groups. From there, the school will choose the unit, choose the teachers to invite to teach the selected activities for the school program" - Mr. Hieu noted.
Avoid surprises in exams
For the 10th grade exam, in September, the Department of Education and Training will announce the teaching and testing orientation and in October, the sample questions will be announced. Based on the professional orientation of the Department of Education and Training, each district will hold a meeting to assign teachers, compile sample questions and send them to the Department of Education and Training. "The Department of Education and Training will discuss with experts, evaluate the sample questions, and then announce them to schools for students to review. Our point of view is that we will evaluate how we teach to avoid causing suddenness and surprise to students," Mr. Hieu affirmed.
