The patient is a 21-year-old female student at a university in Hanoi. After 3 weeks of intensive treatment, the girl is awake, has no neurological sequelae (despite circulatory arrest), and can return to normal life.
On the evening of February 28, the girl was returning home after tutoring when she suddenly got into an accident. The collision left the girl in critical condition and she was rushed to Thuong Tin District Hospital (Hanoi) before being taken to a central hospital.
Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, informed about a special case that was saved after 3 weeks of treatment.
At Bach Mai Hospital, the girl was taken to the emergency room in a coma and stopped circulating. Doctors immediately performed CPR. The patient's circulation returned and she was immediately taken to the operating room.
In the operating room, the cardiologist discovered the patient had a ruptured heart, removing about 1.5 kg of blood clots and blood fluid. The surgery was urgent. During the surgery, the doctors had to transfuse 10 liters of blood . "The interdisciplinary coordination helped us save the patient's life," said Associate Professor, Dr. Co.
In addition to inter-departmental coordination, initial emergency care is important to save the patient's life. "If the patient is treated outside the hospital and the first-line emergency care is effective, we have a chance to save the patient," Associate Professor Co said.
Associate Professor Co suggested that A9 Emergency Center, together with the Vietnam Association of Resuscitation and Anti-Poison, and the resuscitation department coordinate to provide out-of-hospital emergency training for many people in the community, so that more patients who unfortunately have strokes, cardiac arrests, and accidents can be saved.
In Japan, the United States, and many other countries around the world, not only do medical staff know how to perform CPR and first aid for victims, but university students are also trained in first aid. The more people who have first aid knowledge, the more likely it is that accidents in the community will be saved.
