The Association of Southeast Asian Nations Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (ASEAN COSTI), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) have announced the 2023 ASEAN-US Women in Science Awards.

With the theme of electrification, this year's award honors female scientists working to tackle climate change through research on clean energy technologies.
According to asean.org, among 51 competing candidates, this year's prize worth 12,500 USD was awarded to Dr. Pimpa Limthongkul (Thailand) in the category dedicated to scientists over 46 years old for pioneering research in the field of energy storage for electric vehicles and power grids, as well as developing a battery swapping platform for electric motorbikes.
Meanwhile, Dr. Charlle L. Sy (Philippines) was awarded in the category dedicated to scientists under 45 years old (for his research on increasing the efficiency and sustainability of micro-hydropower systems; thereby providing more efficient and flexible energy solutions for local communities).
