FDI disbursement reaches record of over 23 billion USD

This is also a record level of FDI disbursement ever.

According to the Foreign Investment Agency (Ministry of Planning and Investment), of the total registered capital of more than 36.6 billion USD, newly registered capital reached nearly 20.19 billion USD, up 62.2% over the same period. The number of newly registered projects also reached 3,188 projects, up 56.6%. Thus, both new projects and newly registered capital increased sharply. This is a very noteworthy bright spot.

2023 also recorded 1,262 projects registering to adjust investment capital (up 14% over the same period), with the total additional investment capital reaching more than 7.88 billion USD.

The summary of the Foreign Investment Agency clearly stated that foreign investment capital continues to focus on provinces and cities with many advantages in attracting foreign investment (good infrastructure, stable human resources, efforts to reform administrative procedures and dynamism in investment promotion...) such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Thai Binh, Bac Ninh, Nghe An, Binh Duong, Dong Nai.

These 10 localities alone account for 78.6% of new projects and 74.4% of the country's capital in 2023.

By location, Ho Chi Minh City is the champion in attracting foreign investment in 2023, with a total registered investment capital of more than 5.85 billion USD. However, Ho Chi Minh City's investment capital is mainly in the form of capital contribution and share purchase. Hai Phong ranked second with a total registered investment capital of more than 3.26 billion USD. Followed by Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Thai Binh, etc.

Foreign investors have invested in 18 out of 21 sectors of the national economy. Of these, the processing and manufacturing industry is leading with a total investment capital of over 23.5 billion USD.

The real estate industry ranked second with a total investment capital of nearly 4.67 billion USD. The electricity production and distribution; finance and banking industries ranked third and fourth with a total registered capital of more than 2.37 billion USD and nearly 1.56 billion USD, respectively...

In terms of partners, in 2023, there were 111 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. Of which, Singapore took the lead with a total investment capital of more than 6.8 billion USD, accounting for 18.6% of the total investment capital in Vietnam, up 5.4% over the same period in 2022. Japan ranked second with nearly 6.57 billion USD.

Meanwhile, China leads in the number of new projects (accounting for 22.2%). South Korea leads in the number of capital adjustments (accounting for 25.9%) and capital contributions and share purchases (accounting for 27.8%).
