Want to become a programmer but not good at math, how?

Ngoc Thuyen (student of Bac Lieu High School for the Gifted) asked: "I'm a girl, not very good at math and logic, should I choose information technology? I want to become a programmer."

According to Master Phung Quan - Head of Organization and Administration Department of University of Science (Ho Chi Minh City National University), to become a person working in the field of information technology, especially a programmer, requires learners to be good at math, logic skills... If they do not have those strengths, it will be very difficult to develop to become a good programmer.

"When learning programming and writing code, you have to come up with algorithms and the most optimal solutions to write software. Many subjects in the IT industry are related to math, and first of all, students have to learn discrete math. If you can't learn this subject, you'll lose right from the start. If you want to study IT, you need to learn math and foreign languages well...", said Mr. Quan.

According to Mr. Quan, many students are worried that after graduating from information technology, they will not have a job in the era of strong development of artificial intelligence.

"Don't worry, Vietnam needs about 200,000 programmers every year. Meanwhile, the number of training universities cannot fully meet the demand. However, you need to study really well to have many job opportunities. Studying information technology does not mean you will have a job, because there is a lot of competition in this field," said Mr. Quan.

4th year aquaculture students have jobs

Ho Duy Khanh (grade 12, Bac Lieu High School) said that through research, he learned that Bac Lieu has a long coastline and many canals suitable for aquaculture. The government also has a plan to develop Bac Lieu into the shrimp capital of the country. "What profession can I study to take advantage of this to work and develop my home province?", Khanh asked.

Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Thanh Hung - Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry - said that Bac Lieu is a province with strengths in aquaculture. However, very few students are interested in pursuing this field. Currently, Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, Can Tho University, and Bac Lieu University offer training in aquaculture.

"Through research, I learned that people who raise aquatic products depend on companies that provide breeds. This major provides knowledge about creating breeds, raising better quality animals, treating diseases in aquatic products... So, it is very suitable for Bac Lieu students to choose to study this major," said Mr. Hung.

Dr. Tien Hai Ly - Vice Principal of Bac Lieu University - added: "Our school is a local public school with strengths in training in the agricultural sector, including aquaculture. The school has specialized training in high-tech shrimp farming. This is a narrow field that can help students graduate with working qualifications close to practical needs. Many 4th-year students majoring in this field at the school have been signed to work contracts by companies."

Which industry is suitable for renewable energy?

Nguyen Dang Phuc (12th grade student at Bac Lieu High School) wants to ask about Bac Lieu province's breakthrough in renewable energy and clean energy in the Mekong Delta region, such as wind power and solar power. So which major should I choose to be suitable for this field?

Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Thang - Head of Training Department of University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) - said that the wind power industry in Vietnam is developing rapidly.

Some groups can develop further to ensure the system operates in the best way: maintenance, repair, operation... Some develop further about future construction such as electricity transport, electricity dispatching, control, construction. Thus, you can learn about electricity, geotechnics, environment, business, hydrometeorology...

"If you really aim to work to develop the locality, you can study majors related to that field. We need to keep a cool head when choosing a major. You can only study well if you really develop your abilities. If you choose a major that is not suitable for your abilities and interests, you will not be able to study," Mr. Thang advised.

Viet Thuy (Bac Lieu High School) shared from her own experiences in organizing events right in her classroom, she is interested in the event organization industry to study and develop her career in the future.

MSc. Nguyen Thai Chau - Director of Admissions and Corporate Relations at the University of Finance - Marketing, said that regarding event organization, the tourism industry currently has a major in event organization. In tourism activities, there are often gala programs. Organizing an event involves many departments: technical, MC, script writing, stage design, etc.

"You can study communications, marketing... In universities, there are student clubs that you can join to organize small school events, thereby equipping yourself with skills in addition to professional knowledge," said Mr. Chau.

Choose business administration, never fail university

Tong Yen Nhi (student of Dinh Thanh High School) wants to study business administration, but this major is very hot and highly competitive. She doesn't know if she can pass and if she will have many job opportunities after graduation.

According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao - Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, since Vietnam became a market economy, business administration is one of the earliest majors. Up to now, this major is taught in many schools. Almost every school that trains in the economic field, from public to private, has a major in business administration.

"If you want to study business administration, you will never fail the university entrance exam. You will definitely pass if you choose business administration from 1 to n at many schools across the country.

Whether or not you have good job opportunities after graduating from business administration depends on which school you study at and how you study.

Studying business administration is not to become a boss, to lead or run a company. No one will let a fresh graduate become a manager or administrator. Study business administration to know how to start a business.

"The career opportunities in this field are very wide. You need to carefully consider whether you are suitable to study this field or not, and choose the best school and study strategy," Mr. Bao advised.
