On September 28, Mr. Thai Van An - Chairman of the People's Committee of Ngoc Son Commune (Thanh Chuong, Nghe An) - said that up to this point, Mr. Dang Van Thien's household (residing in Nam Phuong hamlet, Ngoc Son commune) has sold 5.8 tons out of a total of 6 tons of eels affected by rain and floods.
Since September 26, heavy rain has occurred in Thanh Chuong district, some places with very heavy rain, the Lam River water rose rapidly causing many areas to be flooded. Water flooded Mr. Thien's commercial eel farm, causing flooding.

This is an eel farming model that Mr. Thien's family invested in in 2022 with a total cost of about 600 million VND.
"In this first crop, Mr. Thien's family bought 60,000 eels for 250 million VND. Now the eels are ready to be sold," said Mr. An.
That same night, the Ngoc Son commune government mobilized military forces, militia, and people to help Mr. Thien's family move eels out of the flooded area.

6 tons of eels (including commercial eels and eel fry) were rescued and brought to safety that night. Mr. Thien had to build a temporary pond with tarpaulin, aeration, and support the eels when the environment suddenly changed, avoiding heat shock and water shock.
According to current market prices, Mr. Thien's family will lose about 700 million VND if the eels are not consumed in time.
To minimize the damage caused by floods to Mr. Thien's household, the authorities and mass organizations of the commune have stood up to call on people and organizations, connecting with a number of units and individuals to consume.
"In the current market, eels of 4-5 eels/kg cost 250,000 VND, eels of 6-7 eels/kg cost 200,000 VND. However, at this time, the selling price is only 120,000 VND/kg.
Not only the officials and people in the commune but also the neighboring communes came to buy eels to support Mr. Thien's family. In addition to calling for "rescue", the commune also mobilized forces to support Mr. Thien in processing and transporting the goods," Mr. Thai Van An informed.
In 2 days, 5.8 tons of eels were sold by local people at a price of 120,000 VND/kg (Photo: Thai An).
In addition to buying eels for food, many households also buy small eels to put in their ponds. After 2 days of continuous selling, up to this point, Mr. Thien's family only has 2 tons of eels left.
According to information provided by the Chairman of Ngoc Son Commune, at this time, heavy rain continues to fall in the area, combined with the discharge of floodwaters from upstream hydropower plants, causing the water level of Lam River to rise, causing flooding. Local authorities are urging the implementation of response and damage reduction work due to floods.
