19th National Press Awards:

Entering the 19th season, the National Press Award received the participation of 17/21 inter-branch associations, 29 affiliated branches, and 59/63 Provincial and Municipal Journalists Associations.

According to statistics from the General Secretariat, the award received 1,962 entries, the highest number ever, of which 156 were by authors who were not members of the Vietnam Journalists Association. The General Secretariat has pre-screened 57 entries and included 1,905 entries that are eligible to enter the preliminary round.

Notably, this time, the National Press Awards have 2 new award groups, bringing the total to 13 award groups. Specifically, print journalism has 3 award groups including news, reflection articles, interviews with 274 works; editorials, comments, and treatises with 78 works; and reports, investigative reports, journalistic reports, and notes with 178 works.

Press photography has 1 group of awards: single photo, group of photos, photo reportage with 107 entries.

The radio field has 2 award groups: news, reflection articles, interviews, comments, and monographs with 56 works; general radio programs, talk shows, reports, documentary reports, and investigative reports with 176 works.

The television field has 3 award groups, including news and reportage with 302 works; commentary, treatise, exchange, and discussion with 48 works; and documentary and television reportage with 108 works.

Electronic newspapers have 2 award groups, including news, reflection articles, interviews, comments, discussions, online exchanges with 291 works; reports, investigative reports, press notes, notes with 158 works.

The two new award groups this time both received positive responses. In which, multimedia journalism has 1 award group of Infographic, Video clips, Podcast, Live-stream with 102 works entering the preliminary round. Creative journalism has 1 award group of creative journalism works, products, and programs with 27 works entering the preliminary round.

Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi said that the 19th season had the largest number of entries ever, demonstrating the strong appeal of the award and the interest and positive response of the Journalists Association at all levels, especially at a time when press agencies are focusing on organizing and rearranging according to the revolution of streamlining the Party and State apparatus.

According to preliminary assessments, the organization and implementation at all levels of the Association has been carried out in an orderly and effective manner. However, this year's implementation of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TU has somewhat affected the progress of selecting works in some localities, so the submission of works to the award is later than in previous years. At the same time, this is also the first year of implementing the National Press Award Charter (amended and supplemented) in 2024 with a number of new regulations and award groups, so some Association levels have not followed the instructions closely.

The Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association requested the members of the preliminary judging panel of each award group to promote their professional capacity and impartiality in selecting worthy works for the final round, especially in the new award groups of this season. The selection is based only on quality, not on the unit, locality or author's name.
