Why reuse 2 songs and still win the award?

In the announcement of the judging results, the work that won the A prize in the Music category is the Art Performance Program "Art Ensemble for the 2022 Quang Nam Province Ethnic Minority Sports Festival" by author Hoang Bich, which reused two songs "Echoes of the Highlands" and "Love of the Highlands" that won the 3rd Quang Nam Award.

According to the award rules: "No awards will be given to works, groups of works, or projects that have been previously awarded."

So why did musician Hoang Bich's work reuse two songs that won the third prize and still win the A prize this time?

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Bich is the permanent deputy head of the organizing committee of the 4th Quang Nam Literature and Arts Award and also the permanent vice chairman of the Jury Council of this award.

What did musician Hoang Bich say?

Talking to Tuoi Tre Online, Mr. Bich said that his performance program has 8 songs, of which two songs are reused: Echo of the Highlands and Love of Quang Nam Highlands .

Mr. Bich believes that there are three elements: music, program script content, and presentation and performance of program content through art forms.

So the judges combined these three factors when awarding the prize. Those two songs won the prize for the third time, but the factor is that if you redo the two songs like the previous time, it is not allowed.

"This performance is different, the content is different, the form of performance is different, only the music is fine. If we take back the previous version exactly, the same dance, the same content, the same commentary, it won't work" - Mr. Bich said.

According to Mr. Bich, the two songs are just a part of the ensemble performance, which is completely different, with different commentary, performance format, and content. The songs only serve as a background for the ensemble performance, accounting for a small percentage of the entire program.

Mr. Bich said that his entry was basically in accordance with the rules, the only problem was that out of the three elements of the work, only one element was that two songs were repeated. And he said that his fourth prize winning work had a few "problems" with the music, but not many.
