Oil prices today April 24, 2025: Oil prices fell nearly 2% as sources said OPEC+ could accelerate oil production increases next month, but losses were limited after a report that US President Donald Trump could cut tariffs on imports from China.

Three sources familiar with the OPEC+ talks told Reuters that some OPEC+ members will propose that the group accelerate its oil output increase for a second straight month in June. The decision comes amid a dispute among members over compliance with production quotas. Both benchmarks fell more than $2 on the news.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan's new energy minister told Reuters that the country will prioritize national interests over those of the OPEC+ producer group when deciding its oil output levels.

Kazakhstan has angered other OPEC+ members by producing more than its allocated quota.

U.S. crude oil inventories rose, while gasoline and distillate inventories posted larger-than-expected declines last week, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said. Crude inventories rose by 244,000 barrels to 443.1 million barrels in the week ended April 18, compared with analysts' expectations in a Reuters poll for a 770,000-barrel decline.

To create a floor under prices, the US government is considering cutting tariffs on imports from China to de-escalate tensions with Beijing, the Wall Street Journal reported. The report added, citing a White House official, that Chinese tariffs could potentially fall to between 50% and 65%.

The US has imposed new sanctions on an Iranian shipping tycoon whose network handles hundreds of millions of dollars worth of Iranian liquefied petroleum gas and crude oil.

In addition, Mr. Trump withdrew his threat to fire Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell after days of criticizing the Fed for not cutting interest rates, easing investor concerns about economic instability.

The price of 0.05S diesel decreased by VND206/liter to VND17,037/liter; kerosene decreased by VND229/liter to VND17,184/liter; the price of 180CST 3.5S mazut increased by VND58/kg to VND15,960/kg.
