This move shows that President Donald Trump wants to further tighten Tehran's oil exports, with the goal of reducing Iran's oil exports to the lowest possible level.

At 4:30 a.m. Vietnam time, Brent crude oil price was recorded at 65.92 USD/barrel, up 1.26 USD. WTI crude oil price also increased to 62.65 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 1.28 USD. The price increase took place in the context of the US resuming nuclear negotiations with Iran, with the next round scheduled to be held in Rome at the end of the week.

At the same time, Iran has remained steadfast in its stance on its nuclear program, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stating that Iran's right to enrich uranium is "non-negotiable." This has added to the tension in the upcoming talks.

On the supply and demand side, a report from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) showed that the country's crude oil inventories increased slightly by 515,000 barrels in the week ending April 11, close to forecasts. However, gasoline and distillate inventories decreased, helping to balance the market somewhat.

Still, the bullish trend is under some pressure. The International Energy Agency (IEA) said 2025 would be the slowest year for global oil demand growth in five years. Meanwhile, the World Trade Organization (WTO) has sharply downgraded its forecast for global goods trade, warning that US tariffs could cause the biggest contraction since the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, increased production from the OPEC+ group along with global trade uncertainty has caused oil prices to fall about 13% this month. Several major banks such as UBS, BNP Paribas and HSBC have also revised down their forecasts for oil prices in the coming time.

Data from China showed the country's GDP grew 5.4% in the first quarter, beating analysts' expectations of 5.1%, indicating that energy consumption in the world's second-largest economy remains quite positive, thereby supporting oil market sentiment.
