The U.S. gold market was closed on Friday for the Easter holiday. Earlier, investors took profits as gold hit a new record, surpassing $3,350 an ounce.
According to some analysts, the gold market is currently overbought but still maintains a solid uptrend. Despite selling pressure, gold prices still hold an important support zone around $3,300/ounce.
Independent analyst Tai Wong said the gold market has completed a short-term correction after a strong rally this week, ahead of the holiday.
Regarding the tariff issue, US President Donald Trump unexpectedly participated in direct negotiations with the Japanese trade delegation and said that the two sides had made significant progress in these negotiations.
Positive news about trade negotiations between the US and Japan has led investors to react optimistically. Previously, Japan had been subject to a 24% tariff on goods exported to the US, although the tax was suspended for 90 days.
The US Dollar Index (DXY) has recovered slightly, but is still on track for a weekly decline. The US Dollar Index (DXY) - which measures the greenback's strength against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF) - is currently at a three-year low of 99.49 points.

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell warned that new tariffs could lead to higher inflation and slower economic growth. He said the tariffs would add costs and the size of the increase would be much larger than initially forecast.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump continued to criticize the Fed Chairman and expressed his desire to "fire" Mr. Jerome Powell immediately, due to dissatisfaction with the Fed not cutting interest rates as expected.
The European Central Bank (ECB) has cut its deposit rate as expected, to 2.25%. The eurozone economy continues to face many challenges, as the unconventional tariff policy from the US and other uncertainties put pressure on consumption and investment.
Gold Price Forecast
David Morrison, senior market analyst at Trade Nation, described the gold price action this week as a “peak boom.” Gold prices have risen 13%, or $360 an ounce, in just one week, so the pullback is not surprising.
Morrison said gold is overbought, with the daily MACD indicator hitting its highest level since April 2011, just before gold hit its all-time high. He noted that this does not mean gold has peaked, but investors should be wary of the risk of a correction.
Christopher Vecchio, head of futures and FX strategy at Tastylive, said gold will continue to be supported by the weakening US dollar.
The US dollar is not currently in danger of losing its status as the global reserve currency, but President Donald Trump's erratic trade policies have somewhat weakened America's position in international markets.
“Although no other currency has the potential to replace the USD as a reserve currency, that still leaves us ‘stuck’ with the USD. What we really need is another asset – and that is gold,” he said.
Gold will remain sensitive to trade-related volatility and global geopolitical tensions, some analysts said, while many international markets will be closed on Monday for the Easter holiday.
