World gold price today April 16, 2025 and world gold price fluctuation chart in the past 24 hours

According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 4am today, Vietnam time, was 3,222.76 USD/ounce. Today's gold price increased by 1.36% compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate on the free market (26,063 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 101.2 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is 6.8 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.

Gold prices rose, supported by safe-haven demand as US President Donald Trump’s tariff plans made investors cautious about trade policy. A weaker US dollar also supported gold prices.

"Traders are waiting for more big fundamentals to drive the gold market, but the chart still shows an uptrend. Safe-haven demand remains," said Jim Wyckoff, senior analyst at Kitco Metals.

Documents published in the Federal Register on Monday show the administration is investigating pharmaceutical and semiconductor imports with a view to imposing tariffs. On Sunday, Mr. Trump said he would announce tariffs on imported semiconductors next week.

Gold – considered a safe investment in times of political and financial uncertainty – has risen more than 23% since the start of 2025 and has set successive record highs.

“The rise in gold prices is partly due to the continued weakness of the US dollar, which suggests that its safe-haven status is eroding – gold is likely to become an alternative for many investors holding US dollars,” Commerzbank said.

In addition, the near-term monetary policy outlook is also supporting gold. The US dollar is currently trading near a three-year low against other major currencies, making gold more attractive to holders of other currencies.

Financial markets expect the US Federal Reserve to resume rate cuts in June after a pause in January, with a total expected rate cut of 100 basis points this year.

Investors are now waiting for a speech by Fed Chairman Jerome Powell for further clues on the path of interest rates.

Meanwhile, spot silver fell 0.4% to $32.23 an ounce, platinum rose 1.4% to $964.80 an ounce, and palladium rose 1.3% to $968.46 an ounce.
