That was the opinion of General Luong Cuong, Politburo member, Standing member of the Central Military Commission, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, at the scientific conference "Dien Bien Phu Victory and the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland", held yesterday (April 11) in Dien Bien Phu City, Dien Bien Province.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, General Luong Cuong affirmed that with the passage of time, we have the conditions to fully and more accurately perceive the stature, significance and influence of the historical event of Dien Bien Phu, and have the right to affirm that the Dien Bien Phu victory is one of the brilliant milestones in the history of the nation's resistance against foreign invaders, becoming a symbol of the strength of the Vietnamese people in the Ho Chi Minh era and leaving valuable lessons for the Vietnamese revolution... Focusing on the conference's introduction, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department, emphasized: "Promoting the spirit of Dien Bien Phu victory, continuing to arouse the great strength of the entire Vietnamese nation, realizing the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country, striving by the middle of the 21st century, our country will become a developed country, following the socialist orientation and maintaining national security, firmly protecting the Fatherland"...

Two decisive events

As one of many witnesses attending the conference, Colonel Nguyen Huu Tai, former Deputy Director of the Military Training Department, General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, recalled the time of participating in the Dien Bien Phu campaign and emphasized: The great victory of the campaign was created by many factors, but there were two events of decisive significance. One was the change in the combat motto from "fight fast, solve quickly" to "fight firmly, advance firmly". The second was the campaign against negative rightist tendencies, raising the determination to win the campaign, led by the Party Committee of the Front.

"Hundreds of years from now, maybe thousands of years from now, our children and grandchildren will still learn about the historical event of Dien Bien Phu, just as we are always proud of and learn about the victories of Bach Dang, Chi Lang, and Dong Da of our ancestors," said Colonel Nguyen Huu Tai. The conference also heard presentations on: Historical lessons of the Dien Bien Phu victory for the People's Public Security force; Dien Bien ethnic people in the Dien Bien Phu campaign in 1954; Logistics strength in the Dien Bien Phu campaign; Dien Bien Phu victory - lessons on building a people's war posture... Closing the conference, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, emphasized that the results of the conference had supplemented documents, events, and important comments and assessments, affirming and deepening the stature and significance of the historic Dien Bien Phu victory.
