Pepper prices today, November 27, 2023, in the domestic market are stable in some key localities, trading from 69,000 - 72,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, pepper price today in Gia Lai is at 69,500 VND/kg.
Pepper prices today in Dong Nai province (69,000 VND/kg); Dak Nong, Dak Lak (70,500 VND/kg); Ba Ria - Vung Tau (71,500 VND/kg) and Binh Phuoc (72,000 VND/kg).
Thus, pepper prices last week generally tended to increase. Compared to the beginning of the week, purchasing prices in key provinces increased by 1,000 - 1,500 VND/kg.
By the end of October 2023, Vietnam's pepper exports reached 225,438 tons, worth 755.63 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, the export volume increased by 17.5%, however, the export turnover decreased by 9.7%.
Vietnam's pepper export price averaged 3,772 USD/ton, up 1.2% compared to the previous month but down slightly 0.8% compared to the same period last year. In the first 10 months of the year, the average pepper export price was 3,352 USD/ton, down 23.1% compared to the same period last year.
By the end of October, whole black pepper was still the largest exported variety with a volume of 162,091 tons, up 15.6% over the same period last year and accounting for 72.5% of the proportion.
Next is ground black pepper reaching 20,040 tons, down 26.5% and accounting for 9% of the proportion. The rest is whole white pepper accounting for 6.9%, ground white pepper accounting for 2.4% and pickled pepper, black pepper, nail head pepper, green pepper, pink pepper... accounting for 0.6%.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyen - Program Manager, IDH Vietnam said that the strategic goal of the Public-Private Partnership Group on Pepper by 2025 is that 70% of Vietnamese pepper meets MRL residue requirements; 25% of pepper farmers increase their income by 20%; 25,000 farmers are trained and have access to agricultural services; 75,000 tons of pepper are produced sustainably.
However, according to the assessment results, it is estimated that by the end of 2023, with the efforts of all parties, as well as the participation of farmers, this goal has achieved impressive results.
It is estimated that by the end of 2023, 60% of pepper output will meet residue requirements; 10% of pepper farmers will increase their income by 20%; 8,000 farmers will be trained and have access to agricultural services. In particular, 120,000 tons of pepper will be produced sustainably and 15% will reduce water use and greenhouse gas emissions.
According to Ms. Quyen, thanks to the active intervention of the PPP Working Group, as well as the response of farmers in awareness and changing farming practices, the rate of banned active ingredients used on pepper plants has decreased over the years.
Therefore, to support farmers in developing the pepper and spice industry sustainably, in 2024, the PPP Partnership Working Group will coordinate with parties to monitor and manage the use of agricultural chemicals, especially the proper use of pesticides.
At the same time, the Group will implement the Child Labor project; Complete the dossier to propose residue levels for Vietnamese pepper entering the US market; Mobilize resources and stakeholders to develop and implement activities in the strategy set out by the PPP Group.
