Pepper price today April 22, 2025: Slight decrease again

In the first half of April 2025, Vietnam's pepper exports reached more than 10,000 tons, earning 72 million USD. This is an impressive growth rate in just two weeks and is believed to be thanks to a series of high-priced export contracts that Vietnamese businesses have recently signed, thereby pushing domestic pepper prices to new levels.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), the three leading exporters were Olam with 1,467 tons, Phuc Sinh with 1,177 tons and Nedspice with 750 tons. Meanwhile, in the opposite direction, Vietnam also imported about 1,846 tons of pepper, worth more than 12.2 million USD. The main imported goods came from Brazil and Cambodia, accounting for more than 80% of the total volume. The major importers included Olam, Phuc Thinh and Tran Chau.

Domestic pepper prices are increasing significantly thanks to strong domestic and foreign demand. In addition to traditional markets, Vietnam's pepper exports are also expanding to new regions such as the Middle East and Africa. This not only helps diversify output but also puts pressure on supply, pushing pepper prices up further.

Pepper price today April 22 in the world market

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Community (IPC) has updated the prices of all types of pepper traded in the international market on April 21 (local time) as follows:

Indonesia's Lampung black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $7,056/ton. Meanwhile, Muntok white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,641/ton.

Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 price remained unchanged from yesterday at $6,900/mt.

Malaysia’s ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,600/ton. Meanwhile, the country’s ASTA white pepper price also remained unchanged from yesterday at $12,100/ton.

Prices of all types of pepper in Vietnam remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of 500 gr/l black pepper in Vietnam reached 6,800 USD/ton; 550 gr/l reached 6,900 USD/ton.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,800/ton.

As of the end of the first quarter of 2024, the US is still Vietnam's largest pepper export market. However, the amount of pepper exported to this market only reached 10,278 tons, a sharp decrease of 32.6% compared to the same period last year. Some other markets also recorded a decrease, such as India with 3,370 tons (down 11.2%) and Germany with 3,358 tons (down 9.3%). Meanwhile, exports to the UAE increased by 15.2%, reaching 2,757 tons.

China was a bright spot with an import volume of 2,034 tons, up nearly 88% over the same period. The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) said this was a sign that pepper reserves in China had dropped. However, exports to this market are still facing difficulties due to the policy of tightening border trade. If shipping by sea is switched, the cost will increase, while Chinese import enterprises are not ready to accept that cost.

For other spice groups, chili exports in the first quarter of 2025 also decreased sharply. Total export volume reached only 849 tons, equivalent to 3 million USD, down 73% in volume and 63% in value compared to the same period last year. Notably, China - the main market for this item - imported only 54 tons of chili from Vietnam, down 98% compared to the same period last year.
