According to experts, pepper prices may continue to fluctuate within a moderate range as Vietnam enters the harvest season. Some slight downward adjustments may occur during the peak harvest period.

However, this depends a lot on producers' willingness to sell, as good coffee prices over the past year have significantly increased their ability to hold stocks.

Harris Spice Company’s latest announcement said that although harvesting has begun in most of Vietnam’s major pepper growing areas, the amount of pepper available on the market is still limited, which helps support prices. In addition, demand from traders and speculators has also impacted the market. The volatile market has also made buyers cautious in trading.

Ms. Hoang Thi Lien - President of Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA) commented: In the context of many fluctuations in tax policies, this time is a big challenge for the Vietnamese pepper industry. As soon as the 10% import tax was applied, some buyers in the US temporarily stopped buying to consider.

This shows that the market is very sensitive to taxes and prices; Vietnamese pepper will have to compete fiercely with pepper from Brazil and Indonesia because their reciprocal taxes are lower.

The US remains the largest export destination, accounting for about 25% of Vietnam's total pepper exports. Conversely, Vietnam is also the largest pepper supplier to the US, accounting for 77% of the country's total pepper output.
