Pepper prices today, April 18, recorded in key production areas such as the Central Highlands and Southeast are at 157,000 - 159,000 VND/kg, some places increased by 500 VND/kg but some places remained unchanged.
World pepper prices are stable at 7,051 USD/ton for Indonesian black pepper, while Vietnamese black pepper is lower, ranging from 6,800 - 6,900 USD/ton depending on size.
The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) cited a report from the International Pepper Community (IPC) predicting that global pepper output this year will decrease by 6.1%, but demand is expected to increase, so pepper prices will remain high throughout 2025.
The reasons given were lower economic returns from pepper compared to other crops, adverse weather conditions and high production costs.

In Vietnam, VPSA said that prolonged drought in the first months of 2025 has significantly affected pepper production in the Central Highlands and Southeast provinces.
Vietnam's pepper harvest is at its peak and every year pepper prices usually decrease due to abundant supply. However, this year, domestic pepper prices have been around VND150,000/kg since the beginning of the season because farmers are selling sparingly. The reason is that some farmers are harvesting durian and coffee, which are getting good prices, so they are not under financial pressure.
Information about the US's reciprocal tax caused pepper prices to drop sharply in early April, but soon after that they increased back to the old level, helping people feel secure in production.
VPSA forecasts that although pepper prices have increased sharply compared to last year, pepper replanting will not take place strongly in the provinces because there is no new land or farmers are planting trees with higher economic value.
