After a period of price increase, the domestic pepper market has reversed and decreased sharply; current pepper prices fluctuate around 145,000 - 147,000 VND/kg.
According to experts, the pepper market is currently quite gloomy with reduced transactions, as farmers and exporters have temporarily stopped selling, expecting prices to increase after Tet. However, the supply of pepper for export in January and February 2025 will be limited, creating pressure on inventories as the main harvest will come later than expected due to the impact of climate change.
According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, the US is Vietnam's largest pepper export market in 2024 with a volume of 73,710 tons worth 407.6 million USD. Accounting for 29.5% in volume and 31% in value of the country's total pepper exports. Compared to 2023, it has increased by 34% in volume and 84.2% in value.

According to experts' predictions, the amount of pepper in stock among the people is limited, remaining only in agents and warehouses of enterprises. It is forecasted that in the next 3-5 years, global pepper production will still not be enough to meet consumer demand, showing that pepper has entered a new price increase cycle.
However, changes in rainfall, prolonged droughts in the dry season and heavy rains causing floods in the rainy season, seriously affect the growth of pepper - one of the important crops in Vietnam's agricultural sector.
These changes not only reduce yields but also make crops more susceptible to pests and diseases, increasing production costs as farmers have to invest more in pest and disease prevention measures. In addition, rising temperatures also adversely affect the growth and flowering of crops, reducing grain quality.
