Steel price today April 22, 2025 on the world market

Rebar on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) for October 2025 delivery rose 7 yuan to 3,105 yuan/t.

Iron ore futures prices have pared losses, supported by steady near-term demand and a weaker US dollar, despite lingering trade tensions between the US and China – the world’s top iron ore consumer.

The most-traded May iron ore contract on China's Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) rose 1.27 percent to 715.5 yuan ($98.15) a tonne.

On the Singapore Exchange, the benchmark iron ore price for May delivery (SZZFK5) also increased by 1.69% to $99.15/ton.

On the demand side, hot metal output continues to remain high. “Hot metal output is currently stable and end demand is not weakening,” brokerage Hexun Futures said in a report.

"Output at China's independent electric arc furnace (EAF) steel mills has increased for 10 consecutive weeks," Mysteel consultancy said.

Last week, US President Donald Trump expressed optimism that a deal could be reached with China, suggesting a possible end to retaliatory tariffs between the two countries.

But on Monday, China warned countries against signing a comprehensive economic deal with the United States if it harmed its national interests, an increasingly assertive tone as trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies continue to escalate.

Other steelmaking components on the DCE rose across the board, with metallurgical coal and coking coal (DCJcv1) up 1.27% and 1.25%, respectively.

Meanwhile, steel products on the Shanghai Futures Exchange traded mixed. Rebar rose about 0.8%, hot-rolled coil rose 0.69%, wire rod (SWRcv1) was flat, and stainless steel edged down 0.08%.
