According to a survey from Chogia.vn, the domestic durian price today remains stable in the highlands, with the good type reaching 180,000 VND/kg.
Specifically: Beautiful Ri6 durian: 140,000 - 144,000 VND/kg; Beautiful Thai durian: 177,000 - 180,000 VND/kg; Bulk purchases: 60,000 - 80,000 VND/kg (depending on type and area)
Quality is the deciding factor in the price difference between varieties. Fruits that meet the standards of ripeness, sweetness, and uniform appearance are often purchased at prices 2-3 times higher than bulk goods.
According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit), in March 2025, fruit and vegetable export turnover reached 421 million USD, down 10.5% over the same period last year. Cumulative exports in the first quarter of 2025 reached only 1.1 billion USD, down more than 13%.
Although China is still the largest export market for Vietnam's fruit and vegetable industry, new quality control regulations are causing many obstacles for durian exporting businesses.
From the beginning of 2025, China requires all imported durian shipments to be tested for heavy metal residues of Cadmium and industrial dye Basic Yellow 2 (BY2) at laboratories recognized by this country. The prolonged testing delays the customs clearance process, affects the freshness of the product and causes damage to businesses.
In the context of increasingly strict export markets, experts recommend drastic changes from farmers, businesses and authorities to maintain the position of this staple product.
On the farmers' side: It is necessary to synchronize the cultivation process, use fertilizers and pesticides according to the permitted list, and avoid overusing chemicals that affect the quality of agricultural products.
On the business side: Proactively build standard raw material areas, closely cooperate with farmers, invest in preliminary processing and packaging systems that meet export standards.
On the state management side: It is necessary to promote the issuance of growing area codes, strengthen inspection and testing, and standardize inspection processes to meet the requirements of major export markets such as China.
