Durian price news on April 17, 2025

Durian price on April 17, 2025: The durian market in Vietnam today continues to be affected by the downward trend in export prices, especially in China, the largest consumer market. Durian prices on April 17, 2025 in key growing regions such as the Southwest, Southeast and Central Highlands range from 50,000 to 180,000 VND/kg, depending on type and quality.

According to market data, the price of durian on April 17, 2025 in the Southwest recorded that beautiful Ri6 durian reached 140,000 - 144,000 VND/kg, while Ri6 durian was only 60,000 - 70,000 VND/kg. Beautiful Thai durian was priced at 177,000 - 180,000 VND/kg, while Thai durian fluctuated at 70,000 - 80,000 VND/kg. In the Southeast, the price was similar, but Thai durian was slightly lower, from 65,000 - 78,000 VND/kg. The Central Highlands had a higher price of Ri6 durian, reaching 70,000 - 80,000 VND/kg, while beautiful Thai durian was slightly lower, from 170,000 - 180,000 VND/kg.

In the export market, the price of durian to China on April 17, 2025 showed a significant decrease. China's durian import turnover from Vietnam in the first two months of 2025 reached 38.8 million USD, down sharply by 76% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 56.9% of the market share. The average export price from Vietnam also decreased by 7.5%, down to 4,561 USD/ton. Thailand, although still leading with a turnover of 79.2 million USD, also decreased by 34.2% and the export price decreased by 10%, reaching 5,529 USD/ton. In contrast, Malaysia recorded a remarkably high export price, reaching 15,167 USD/ton, while the Philippines increased by 15.2%, reaching 3,542 USD/ton.

The main reason for the decrease in durian prices on April 17, 2025 was due to a sharp decrease in supply from Southeast Asian countries, especially Thailand and Vietnam, in import volume to China. In addition, strict quality control requirements, especially heavy metal residues, from China caused many Vietnamese shipments to be returned, affecting domestic prices. In durian gardens in Tien Giang and Can Tho , farmers are concerned that prices will continue to decrease when the main season begins due to pressure from the export market.

However, the price of durian on April 17, 2025 still has the prospect of recovering if Vietnam improves quality and meets export standards. Enterprises are boosting frozen durian exports, with an expected turnover of 300-500 million USD in 2025, opening up opportunities for price stabilization in the future.

Future durian price forecast

Durian prices are forecast to remain low or decrease slightly in the coming months due to increased supply during the main season. Ri 6 durians can range from VND30,000 to VND50,000 per kilogram, while Monthong durians can range from VND60,000 to VND80,000 per kilogram at the orchard. Exports to China will face difficulties due to quality issues, putting downward pressure on domestic prices. However, if businesses successfully shift to markets such as Taiwan or boost frozen durian exports, prices may stabilize by the end of the year.

Currently, the durian market in Vietnam is facing many challenges, especially in exports to China - the largest consumer market, accounting for more than 93% of Vietnam's durian export turnover. According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, durian exports to China have decreased sharply due to shipments being found to contain residues of banned substances such as cadmium and yellow O, leading to their being returned. This not only reduces export volume but also puts pressure on domestic durian prices.

In the domestic market, durian prices in Tien Giang - one of the key durian growing areas - have dropped sharply. Ri 6 durian is now only 35,000 - 40,000 VND/kg, while Monthong durian (Thailand) ranges from 60,000 - 65,000 VND/kg, 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg lower than last month. Supply in Tien Giang is not much, while provinces such as Dong Thap and Can Tho are in the peak harvest season, and the Eastern region is preparing to enter a new crop. However, due to the continuous price drop and strict quality control requirements, many purchasing warehouses have temporarily stopped operating, causing difficulties for farmers.
