According to the representative of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Gia Loc district and some farmers, cabbage is currently priced at 3-4 million VND/sao, and many fields are ready for harvest but there are no traders coming to buy due to difficulties in consumption. With such a selling price, people only make a profit of 1-2 million VND/sao.
This is the lowest selling price since the beginning of the vegetable season and the prolonged low price period has made farmers worried.
At the beginning of the season, cabbage cost 8 million VND/sao, then dropped to 6 million VND.
This winter crop, Gia Loc district planted 2,940 hectares, including 830 hectares of cabbage.
The reason for the low price of cabbage is that this year the weather is favorable for vegetables to grow and develop, so even though it is winter, many types of summer vegetables such as squash, pumpkin, Malabar spinach, water spinach, etc. are still quite abundant. Cabbage from China competes with domestic cabbage. In recent days, the rainy and humid weather has prevented traders from buying because if the vegetables are left wet in containers brought to the South for consumption, they will spoil.
