Updated domestic coffee prices at 5:00 a.m. on February 28, 2025 showed an upward trend, reaching an average of VND 130,500/kg, an increase of VND 1,500/kg compared to the previous session.
In the Central Highlands, coffee prices increased by VND1,500/kg, with the highest purchase price reaching VND130,500/kg. Specifically, the coffee price in Dak Lak is currently VND130,500/kg, while Lam Dong has a price of VND128,500/kg, in Gia Lai the price is VND130,500/kg and Dak Nong also recorded VND130,500/kg.
The increase in domestic coffee prices reflects the balance between supply and demand, in the context of domestic supply showing signs of gradually decreasing.
In addition, the strengthening US dollar is putting pressure on many commodities, including coffee. The US Dollar Index (DXY) has risen to 106.5 points, along with the 2-year and 10-year Treasury yields also recording increases. This has led traders to predict a possible downward adjustment in prices, especially after the sharp increase in early 2025, when the market hit a record high of nearly $ 4.3 / pound earlier this month.
Pepper prices are stable
At the time of update at 5:00 a.m. on February 28, 2025, the domestic pepper market continued to remain stable, sideways and maintained at a high level after many previous adjustment sessions. Currently, the average pepper purchase price in key areas reached 157,800 VND/kg.
Specifically, pepper prices in Gia Lai have not changed compared to the previous session, currently maintained at 157,000 VND/kg.
Meanwhile, pepper prices in Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc continued to be stable, with no new fluctuations recorded. Currently, the purchase price in these two provinces is 157,000 VND/kg.
In Dak Lak and Dak Nong, pepper prices remained unchanged compared to the previous session's slight decrease, with the current purchase price reaching 159,000 VND/kg.
According to an update from the International Pepper Community (IPC) at 5:00 a.m. on February 28, 2025, the global pepper market continued to stabilize after previous ups and downs.
Specifically, IPC recorded the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper at 7,318 USD/ton, while Muntok white pepper was priced at 10,074 USD/ton.
The Malaysian pepper market tends to remain stable, with the country's ASTA black pepper price currently fluctuating at $9,500/ton, while ASTA white pepper is at $12,000/ton.
In Brazil, after recording a slight increase earlier, pepper prices also remained stable, with the current purchase price at 6,850 USD/ton.
For the Vietnamese pepper export market, after the previous sharp increase, pepper prices continued to stabilize at a high level. Specifically, the price of 500 g/l black pepper exported from Vietnam reached 6,900 USD/ton, while 550 g/l was priced at 7,100 USD/ton. White pepper exports are currently priced at 9,900 USD/ton.
Although domestic pepper prices have not fluctuated much, the export market has recorded significant growth. According to Mr. Ho Tri Nhuan, Director of Gohan Company Limited, pepper consumption demand in the US in 2024 has increased by 5%. However, purchases from importers have increased sharply by 30-40% due to concerns that prices will continue to rise. This makes it difficult for export enterprises to sign long-term contracts at lower prices than actual prices, leading to the risk of losses when prices suddenly increase sharply.
It is forecasted that in the second quarter of 2025, China may increase its purchase of pepper from Vietnam when the main harvest season takes place. Meanwhile, the US may adjust its import pace due to large inventories from the previous year. If China really increases its imports as forecast, domestic pepper prices may soon recover, ending the current downward adjustment series.
Although the market is still in the adjustment phase, pepper export prices continue to increase, helping farmers expect an upcoming recovery. However, stockpiling needs to be carefully calculated to limit risks in the face of unpredictable fluctuations in the global market.
