In the domestic market, coffee prices continued to increase sharply on the morning of November 25, with a range of VND1,500/kg, reaching an average of VND119,000/kg in the Central Highlands provinces. In Gia Lai, the purchase price was VND118,900/kg, while Dak Nong and Dak Lak maintained the highest price of VND119,000/kg.
The price of green coffee beans in Lam Dong fluctuates around 118,000 VND/kg, with districts such as Bao Loc, Di Linh and Lam Ha. In particular, Cu M'gar district (Dak Lak) reached 119,000 VND/kg, while Ea H'leo and Buon Ho districts stopped at 118,900 VND/kg.
Over the past two weeks, domestic coffee prices have increased by a total of VND10,000/kg, despite being in the harvest season. The current price brings good profits to farmers.
November and December are the peak harvest months for Vietnam, the world’s largest exporter of Robusta coffee. However, this year’s export volume has fallen due to high prices and increased intercropping, which has reduced the number of coffee trees in each garden.
Robusta coffee prices are likely to remain high, despite news of increased global coffee production or the EU's delayed anti-deforestation regulations.
Pepper prices remain stable
Pepper prices on November 25, 2024 in the domestic market remained unchanged compared to November 24. Last week, pepper prices recorded slight fluctuations, increasing from 500 - 1,000 VND/kg, marking a rare week in which domestic pepper prices increased, bringing a positive signal.
In Dak Lak and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, pepper price today reached 140,000 VND/kg, an increase of 500 - 1,000 VND/kg compared to the beginning of last week. Pepper price in Chu Se (Gia Lai) was 139,500 VND/kg, while Binh Phuoc recorded 139,000 VND/kg.
In the international market, pepper prices were stable, with Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) reaching 6,470 USD/ton and Muntok white pepper at 9,055 USD/ton. In Brazil, ASTA 570 black pepper remained at 6,000 USD/ton, while Malaysia listed ASTA black pepper at 8,400 USD/ton and ASTA white pepper at 10,500 USD/ton.
Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged, with 500 g/l at $6,200/ton, 550 g/l at $6,500/ton, and white pepper at $9,400/ton.
The international pepper market is expected to remain stable thanks to high demand from major importers. However, competition from Brazil and Indonesia could slow down the pace of price increases, putting pressure on the market recovery.
According to IPC, domestic black pepper prices in Sri Lanka continue to rise, while India is facing prolonged drought and rains, which have reduced productivity and increased disease outbreaks on pepper plants. These conditions are expected to continue to negatively impact production in the coming period.
Buyers are now awaiting more information on new crops in Vietnam and Brazil, as rising coffee prices have spurred speculation, putting pressure on pepper prices in many regions.
