Domestic coffee prices on the morning of January 24, 2025 recorded a sharp increase with an average price of VND 124,200/kg, an increase of VND 1,900/kg compared to the previous day. In Dak Lak, coffee prices reached VND 124,000/kg (an increase of VND 1,800/kg), Lam Dong at VND 123,500/kg (an increase of VND 2,000/kg), Gia Lai recorded VND 124,000/kg (an increase of VND 1,800/kg), while Dak Nong reached the highest price of VND 124,500/kg (an increase of VND 2,000/kg).
The reason for today's sharp increase in coffee prices is believed to be due to the appreciation of the local currencies of Brazil and Vietnam against the USD, causing exporters to delay transactions in anticipation of higher prices. Meanwhile, trading activities in Vietnam are limited due to the Tet holiday.
According to business people, domestic coffee prices may soon reach 125,000 VND/kg, close to the peak of 130,000 VND/kg recorded at the beginning of the season.

According to the International Pepper Community (IPC), world pepper prices also recorded an upward trend. In Indonesia, Lampung black pepper prices reached 7,157 USD/ton (up 22 USD/ton), while Muntok white pepper was at 9,456 USD/ton (up 29 USD/ton).
The Malaysian pepper market remained stable at a high level, with ASTA black pepper prices at $9,000/ton and ASTA white pepper at $11,600/ton. In Brazil, pepper prices stabilized at $6,100/ton after the previous decline.
Vietnamese pepper exports also recorded a slight increase, with black pepper 500 g/l reaching 6,350 USD/ton and 550 g/l reaching 6,650 USD/ton, white pepper reaching 9,550 USD/ton.
Some experts say that a large amount of pepper in Vietnam is now in the hands of speculators. They use profits from other agricultural products that have experienced price increases, such as coffee or durian, to stockpile pepper, reducing supply in the market.
Farmers in many localities are expected to start harvesting pepper after the Lunar New Year and last until the end of April. However, this year's harvest progress is delayed due to unfavorable weather in 2024.
According to forecasts, pepper prices on January 25, 2025 may increase slightly by VND 500/kg, ranging from VND 148,000 - VND 148,500/kg, with Dak Lak and Dak Nong maintaining the highest price of VND 148,500/kg, while Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc reach VND 147,000/kg.
