Agricultural product prices on February 20, 2025: Coffee bounces back, pepper remains stable at high levels

DNVN - Agricultural product prices today, February 20, 2025, recorded a recovery in coffee, reaching an average of 132,500 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Meanwhile, pepper continued to stabilize at a high level, with the highest price reaching 162,500 VND/kg.

Coffee prices reverse upward

Agricultural product prices on February 18, 2025: Coffee and pepper prices increased sharply

On the London floor, at 5:00 a.m. on February 20, 2025, Robusta coffee prices continued to increase slightly compared to the previous session, with an increase of 18 - 25 USD/ton, fluctuating between 5,633 - 5,756 USD/ton. Specifically, the contract for delivery in March 2025 was priced at 5,756 USD/ton (up 18 USD/ton), the contract for May 2025 was 5,746 USD/ton (up 25 USD/ton), the contract for July 2025 was closed at 5,701 USD/ton (up 23 USD/ton) and the contract for September 2025 was 5,633 USD/ton (up 24 USD/ton).

At the end of trading, Arabica coffee prices in New York had mixed developments compared to the previous session. Specifically, the contract for delivery in March 2025 reached 417.90 cents/lb (down 1.10 cents/lb), while the contract for delivery in May 2025 increased to 411.90 cents/lb (up 6.65 cents/lb), the contract for delivery in July 2025 recorded 397.30 cents/lb (up 7 cents/lb) and the contract for delivery in September 2025 reached 385.05 cents/lb (up 6.25 cents/lb).

At the same time, the price of Brazilian Arabica coffee continued to increase significantly. Specifically, the March 2025 contract reached 510.00 USD/ton (up 8.40 USD/ton), the May 2025 contract reached 506.00 USD/ton (up 0.70 USD/ton), the July 2025 contract reached 501.00 USD/ton (up 9.25 USD/ton) and the September 2025 contract closed at 482.00 USD/ton (up 2.90 USD/ton).

Domestic coffee prices increased slightly

Updated at 5:00 a.m. this morning, February 20, 2025, domestic coffee prices have recovered, with an average of VND 132,500/kg, an increase of VND 1,000/kg compared to the previous session.

The highest purchase price in the key areas of the Central Highlands was recorded at 132,500 VND/kg. Today, coffee in the Central Highlands increased by 1,000 VND/kg. Specifically, coffee prices in Dak Lak reached 132,500 VND/kg, Lam Dong recorded 130,800 VND/kg, Gia Lai reached 132,500 VND/kg, and Dak Nong also reached 132,500 VND/kg.

Over the past week, domestic coffee prices have been fluctuating around VND130,000/kg, with transactions taking place actively as buyers and sellers reached agreements on prices.

Many domestic roasters are actively buying goods due to concerns that prices will not fall further.

After a downward adjustment last week, domestic coffee prices quickly regained momentum. Compared to the bottom of last week (VND129,800/kg), the current price has increased by about VND2,700 - 3,000/kg, reinforcing the upward trend after previous downward adjustments.

Pepper prices steady at high levels

Domestic pepper prices on the morning of February 20, 2025 continued to remain stable, with the highest level reaching 162,500 VND/kg. The average purchase price in key areas is currently 160,900 VND/kg.

In Gia Lai province, pepper prices remain stable at a high level, with the current purchase price at VND160,000/kg. Similarly, Binh Phuoc also maintains the purchase price at VND160,000/kg.

In Ba Ria - Vung Tau, pepper prices continue to remain high, with transaction prices reaching 160,000 VND/kg.

In Dak Lak, pepper price today is at 162,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, Dak Nong is leading the country with the highest price of 162,500 VND/kg.

World pepper prices are stable

According to the International Pepper Community (IPC), updated at 5:00 a.m. on February 20, 2025, the global pepper market did not fluctuate much, remaining stable at a high level compared to the previous session.

Specifically, IPC recorded the price of Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) at 7,298 USD/ton, while the price of Muntok white pepper of this country is 10,143 USD/ton.

In Malaysia, the pepper market remains high, with ASTA black pepper reaching USD 9,000/ton, while ASTA white pepper is being purchased at USD 11,600/ton.

Brazilian pepper prices remained unchanged from the previous increase, currently reaching 6,800 USD/ton.

In Vietnam, pepper export prices continue to be stable but show signs of a slight decrease. Currently, 500 g/l black pepper is traded at 6,500 USD/ton, while 550 g/l is at 6,650 USD/ton. White pepper export prices are at 9,550 USD/ton.

The upward trend in pepper prices is expected to continue this year due to reduced production while demand remains high. Currently, the global market is facing a shortage of supply, while demand tends to be stable or increasing.

In the short term, pepper prices may continue to increase sharply, especially if China – one of Vietnam's main import markets – increases purchases again.

According to forecasts by some industry experts, Vietnamese pepper prices are likely to increase by 40% to 50% compared to current levels.
