Domestic coffee hits record high
According to the update at 5:00 a.m. on March 13, 2025, coffee prices in the Central Highlands continued to increase compared to yesterday, with an adjustment of 2,500 - 2,700 VND/kg. Currently, the average purchase price is 133,900 VND/kg.
In detail, in Dak Lak, coffee is priced at 134,000 VND/kg, while in Lam Dong, it is 132,500 VND/kg. In Gia Lai, the recorded price is 133,800 VND/kg, while in Dak Nong, coffee is currently purchased at 134,000 VND/kg.
For the first time in a long time, domestic coffee prices have surpassed record highs, despite the impact of persistent inflation. Asia is now the world's largest coffee consuming region with demand continuing to rise strongly.
According to experts, the increase in coffee prices has contributed to improving the income of growers. However, the Vietnamese coffee industry is still facing many major challenges.
The trend of converting from raw coffee production to deep processing or high-quality organic coffee requires significant investment capital and a long time. Currently, most farmers still apply traditional farming methods, leading to many limitations in increasing product value.
Export markets are also becoming more demanding, as importers increasingly tighten quality standards. Tariff policies, export certification requirements and international technical regulations can reduce the competitiveness of Vietnamese coffee.
In particular, the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) issued by the EU – a market that accounts for 41% of Vietnam’s total coffee export turnover – is creating additional pressure on domestic enterprises. Strict criteria on food safety, environmental protection and organic certification threaten to push up export costs, affecting profits as well as competitiveness in the international market.

The Malaysian pepper market remained stable compared to the previous session, with ASTA black pepper prices remaining at USD 9,800/ton, while ASTA white pepper was priced at USD 12,300/ton.
In Brazil, pepper prices have not fluctuated much, currently being purchased at 6,900 USD/ton.
Vietnam's pepper export market also tends to be stable but slightly decreasing. Specifically, the current export price of 500 g/l black pepper is 7,000 USD/ton, 550 g/l is 7,200 USD/ton, while white pepper is being traded at 10,000 USD/ton.
Pepper industry continues to face challenges
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), pepper prices have increased sharply compared to previous years, bringing significant benefits to farmers. It is forecasted that global demand for pepper will remain high, helping pepper prices continue to increase in the coming time.
In Vietnam, although pepper prices have increased, they are not attractive enough to encourage farmers to expand their growing areas. The main reason is that other crops such as durian bring higher profits, making many farmers not really interested in expanding their pepper growing areas.
Besides, domestic pepper output is gradually decreasing, posing great challenges for the export industry in the coming time.
