The continued rise in coffee prices has caused difficulties for distribution businesses due to reduced orders. To adapt, manufacturing companies have been forced to adjust their strategies, focusing on high-quality products that meet sustainability standards while minimizing the impact on natural forests.
The recent increase in raw material prices of more than 300% has put pressure on businesses. Although retail prices have been adjusted, the increase is only about 20% to avoid losing customers. According to Mr. Y Pot Nie, General Director of Ede Cafe Joint Stock Company, the price of green coffee beans has increased from VND40,000/kg to VND145,000/kg. "This has caused many old customers to seek suppliers with lower prices."
The company was forced to shift to the high-end product segment, prioritizing quality over price competition. However, buyers were still hesitant and often forced to lower prices. Monthly sales volume decreased by 5-10%, customers switched from ordering by the ton to buying in small quantities of a few dozen to a few hundred kilograms. The company also had to spend a lot of time explaining price changes.
In response, the company expanded into new markets and cut operating costs. Staffing was adjusted from full-time to part-time, and technology was applied to reduce manual labor. In addition, advertising and promotion costs were also cut by 10-15%, focusing on production and sales to maintain revenue.
