Domestic coffee prices slightly decreased by 100 VND/kg

According to the update at 5:00 a.m. this morning, April 24, 2025, coffee prices in the Central Highlands continued to decrease slightly by 100 VND/kg compared to yesterday. The average purchase price was recorded at 129,300 VND/kg.

Specifically, Dak Lak province is currently purchasing coffee at 129,400 VND/kg; in Lam Dong the price is 128,900 VND/kg; Gia Lai has a price of 129,300 VND/kg and Dak Nong is currently purchasing at 129,400 VND/kg.

In the past 4 days, the coffee market has lacked a clear reference price, along with many conflicting sources of information, making it extremely difficult to predict trends.

Mr. Nguyen Dac Dat, Director of Nga Thanh Trading Company Limited ( Dak Nong ), commented: "In 12 years working in the coffee purchasing industry, he has never seen prices fluctuate the same year after year, so it is difficult to find a pattern". Currently, transactions are almost stagnant because the seller and buyer have not reached a price agreement. The transactions are mainly small orders to serve urgent needs from domestic roasting facilities.

Mr. Dat said that coffee can be stored for 2 to 3 years without affecting its quality. However, in recent years, coffee production has decreased sharply due to harsh weather, low productivity and some of the area being converted to other crops or urbanization.

Pepper prices remain stable at high levels

According to records at 5:00 a.m. on April 24, 2025, the domestic pepper market remained at a high level, with almost no significant fluctuations in many consecutive sessions. The average pepper price in key areas is currently at 154,400 VND/kg.

Specifically, pepper prices in Gia Lai remained unchanged compared to yesterday, currently being purchased at 154,000 VND/kg.

In Ba Ria - Vung Tau area, pepper price also remained stable as in the previous slight decrease, currently purchased at 154,000 VND/kg.

In Binh Phuoc, the market continues to move sideways with the current purchase price of 154,000 VND/kg.

Pepper prices in Dak Nong and Dak Lak provinces remained unchanged compared to yesterday, currently standing at 155,000 VND/kg.

World pepper market is flat, only Indonesia has slight fluctuations

According to the update from the International Pepper Community (IPC) at 5:00 a.m. on April 24, 2025, the global pepper market generally maintained a stable trend. In Indonesia alone, prices fluctuated between increases and decreases; meanwhile, other countries did not see many changes.

Specifically, the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper is currently at 7,104 USD/ton; the price of Muntok white pepper is traded at 9,614 USD/ton.

In Malaysia, prices remained stable, with ASTA black pepper being purchased at $9,600/tonne and ASTA white pepper at $12,100/tonne.

The Brazilian market also recorded a flat price compared to yesterday's increase, currently black pepper is purchased at 6,900 USD/ton.

Vietnam's black pepper exports remain stable with the 500 g/l grade priced at 6,800 USD/ton, the 550 g/l grade at 6,900 USD/ton; the price of white pepper is at 9,800 USD/ton.

Pepper exports to China increase sharply but still lower than last year

According to data from the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), in the first quarter of 2025, pepper exports to China reached 2,034 tons, an increase of 87.8% over the same period in 2024.

However, when compared to the whole year of 2023, this figure is still 92.2% lower. China has now risen to the 4th position among Vietnam's largest pepper import markets, with its market share increasing from 1.9% to 4.3%.

The rapid increase in pepper exports suggests that China’s reserves are running low. However, trade remains hampered by China’s strict border controls. Shipping by sea has also increased costs, making Chinese companies reluctant to finalize orders.

Domestic pepper production faces difficulties due to harsh weather

Domestically, pepper production is facing many challenges due to adverse weather conditions. Prolonged drought since early 2025 has severely affected key pepper growing areas in the Central Highlands and the Southeast.

Although some recent rains have helped improve the situation, they are not enough for pepper gardens to fully recover. The late rains could affect the development of flower buds, leading to the risk of reducing yields in the next crop.

Domestic pepper prices remain high amid falling output, giving farmers confidence during the peak harvest period, which is expected to last until the end of April.

In contrast to previous years, when abundant supply caused prices to fall, this year pepper prices remained around 150,000 VND/kg. The main reason is due to farmers' hoarding mentality, no longer under pressure to sell early as before.

In early April, pepper prices had a period of adjustment, but quickly recovered and increased again. By mid-month, domestic pepper prices had reached 160,000 VND/kg.

Although high prices are a positive signal for growers, they become a barrier for exporting businesses. VPSA forecasts that in the second quarter of 2025, export activities may face difficulties due to high prices reducing purchasing power and affecting the cash flow of importers.
