Rice price today April 18, 2025: Exports slightly decreased

In the export market, Vietnamese rice prices have tended to decrease slightly but still hold the highest position in the region. According to the Vietnam Food Association, the export price of 5% broken rice is at 396 USD/ton, down 1 USD compared to the previous day. 25% broken rice remains at 370 USD/ton, while 100% broken rice is at 317 USD/ton.

Although the volume of rice exported in the first quarter of this year increased, the average selling price decreased significantly. Vietnam exported about 2.3 million tons of rice, up 5.6% compared to the same period last year. However, the average price was only about $492/ton, the lowest since 2023 and down 21% compared to the end of last year.

As of mid-April, the downward trend continued. The price of 5% broken rice from Vietnam was only about 399 USD/ton. Meanwhile, Thailand and India also recorded their lowest prices in 3 years, at 393 USD and 374 USD/ton, respectively. India's lifting of the rice export ban has put great pressure on the market and caused a strong shift in commodity flows.

The situation of rice exports to Indonesia has also changed dramatically. Although last year it was the second largest market after the Philippines with nearly 1.3 million tons of rice imported from Vietnam, in the first quarter of 2025, the export volume to Indonesia decreased by 97%, to just over 14,000 tons, causing this country to drop to 10th place among Vietnam's rice import markets.

In contrast, markets in Africa are growing strongly. Rice exports to Ivory Coast increased threefold, while those to Ghana increased sevenfold compared to the same period last year. Both markets are now among the top five largest rice importers of Vietnam in the first quarter of the year.
