According to data from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Long An, the 2024 summer-autumn rice crop in the whole province was sown on 222,124 hectares, reaching 103% of the plan, and has so far harvested nearly 110,000 hectares, with an estimated rice yield of 5.75 tons/ha and output of 628,988 tons.

The 2024 autumn-winter rice crop was sown on 33,444 hectares, reaching 60.2% of the plan, reaching 76.6% over the same period. Up to now, more than 7,000 hectares have been harvested, with an estimated yield of 5.7 tons/ha and output of 40,363 tons.

Rice prices are rising but many farmers are not benefiting.

Compared to the beginning of the season, rice prices have increased by 800-1,000 VND/kg. Specifically, the current price of fresh rice variety OM5451 is from 8,000-8,200 VND/kg; IR4625 variety is from 7,800-8,100 VND/kg; Dai Thom 8 variety is from 8,400-8,600 VND/kg; OM18 variety is from 8,400-8,600 VND/kg.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ket (Vinh Dai commune, Tan Hung district) has just harvested 1 hectare of OM18 rice variety, yielding 7 tons/ha, selling price 8,500 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, he earned a profit of more than 30 million VND.

Although rice prices have increased, many farmers have not benefited because many rice areas were harvested earlier. In the 2024 summer-autumn rice crop, Vinh Hung district planted 28,624 hectares. Up to this point, farmers in the area have completed the harvest, with yields reaching 5 - 8 tons/ha, selling prices ranging from 6,800 - 7,300 VND/kg (depending on the variety), excluding expenses, farmers earn a profit of 16.5 - 34 million VND/ha.

The whole province still has more than 110,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice in 2024 and more than 26,000 hectares of autumn-winter rice in 2024 that have not been harvested. Currently, pests and diseases have arisen and caused damage in the fields such as neck blast, grain smut, leaf blight, and leaf blast.

The agricultural sector focuses on directing the prevention of pests and diseases in rice, strengthening propaganda and mobilizing farmers to regularly visit fields to promptly detect pests and diseases in order to take preventive measures.
