China has announced that it will stockpile pork in central reserves to stabilize prices of the staple food amid falling pork prices. The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) made the announcement on November 24. This will be the third round of pork stockpiling this year. The move comes amid falling pork prices in China.
Under the pork market stabilization plan, China has adopted a three-tier early warning system to warn of excessive increases or decreases in pork prices. The NDRC said it will coordinate with relevant ministries to launch a stockpiling program for national reserves as planned.
