After nearly 2 months of maintaining the price at 70,000 VND/kg or more, for over a week now, the price of live pigs in the market has begun to cool down. Up to now, the price of live pigs at businesses and farms is around 65,000 VND/kg; at small-scale households it is from 60,000-63,000 VND/kg. With this price, farmers still make a profit, can confidently invest in caring for their pigs, ensuring the supply of pork for the market until the end of the year and Tet.
Pig prices have slightly decreased, but farmers are still making a profit, so many households continue to confidently re-herd.
After selling a batch of more than 100 pigs, Mr. Ha Quyet Thang in Dong Co area, Thuc Luyen commune, Thanh Son district quickly cleaned, disinfected and sterilized the barn to prepare for herd restoration, supplying the market at the end of the year and Tet. Mr. Thang happily said: "My family's farm currently has more than 100 sows and nearly 500 pigs of all ages. Recently, my family sold the pigs at the right time when prices were high, after deducting expenses, we still made a profit of about 150 million VND.
Currently, pig prices have started to drop, however, at this price, farmers still make a profit because the price of animal feed has decreased, and there are no outbreaks of disease in the province, so there are no costs for disease prevention... Particularly for farms that can proactively produce piglets, profits will be higher."
Mr. Sung A Pao, manager of Thanh Son SF farm under CJ Vina Agri Company Limited located in Ket Binh area, Yen Son commune, Thanh Son district, shared: The current cooling of pig prices is in accordance with the market rules. According to the business's forecast, pig prices may continue to decrease slightly in the coming time but still ensure profits for small-scale farmers. Currently, large farms and businesses are focusing on building disease-free livestock facilities, raising livestock in the direction of biosafety, VietGAP with the aim of exporting, so the room for the domestic market is still very large.
Through research, we learned that the current decrease in live pig prices is due to the recent increase in pig prices, many small-scale farmers have increased their herds while the market demand for meat has not increased. Currently, it is summer time, because students are on summer vacation, the collective kitchens of schools have temporarily stopped operating, which has also caused the amount of meat consumed to decrease compared to before.
Workers of CJ Vina Agri Co., Ltd. spray disinfectant on the company's contract farms.
Another important reason is that the African swine fever epidemic is developing complicatedly, causing concern and confusion, causing some consumers to switch from "hot" meat (fresh meat) to "cool" meat (pre-processed meat) or use other types of food such as beef, chicken, seafood...
The decrease in live hog prices also caused pork prices in traditional markets to decrease slightly, on average by 5,000-8,000 VND/kg depending on the type. For example, the price of pork belly decreased from 142,000 VND to 135,000 VND/kg; lean pork loin from 140,000 VND to 135,000 VND/kg, spare ribs from 150,000 VND to 143,000 VND/kg... The decrease in pork prices also contributed to reducing daily expenses for families.
According to experts, the price of pigs from now until the end of the year will be stable at 60,000-65,000 VND/kg. At this price, farmers will still make a profit, so they can invest with peace of mind. However, it is necessary to pay attention to raising animals according to the planning of the livestock industry; focus on vaccinating against diseases, especially African swine fever, to ensure the safety of the herd and avoid damage caused by diseases.
