* Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice President of the Dong Nai Province Livestock Association, said that for more than 2 months now, the price of live pigs has dropped very low, even selling for only 48,000-49,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan said: “Currently, it is the time to import pigs for the year-end and Lunar New Year. Due to low prices, people are hesitant to import pigs to restock their herds. In addition, the disease situation is seriously threatening, so people are not raising pigs.”

However, according to Mr. Duong Tat Thang, Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), there will be no shortage of food and pork at the end of the year and during Tet 2024, because when we join free trade agreements with countries around the world and the region, there will be an exchange of goods.

Besides, the demand for pork and other foods worldwide, including Vietnam, has decreased due to limited income.

“When the economy is limited, spending will be cut accordingly. In addition, the total herd of pigs is currently nearly 27 million, along with other foods such as chicken, beef, eggs, and seafood. Therefore, the total herd of pigs and other foods will certainly ensure supply for 100 million Vietnamese people from now until the end of the 15th day of the first lunar month,” Mr. Duong Tat Thang affirmed.
