The remaining localities purchase at prices ranging from 48,000 - 52,000 VND/kg.

The price of live pigs in the Southern region today is between 47,000 - 52,000 VND/kg.

* According to Mr. Do Xuan Huy, Deputy General Director of CP Vietnam Livestock Company, the current selling price of pigs is down to an average of 49,000 VND/kg, so livestock companies are losing money. Meanwhile, the price of feed and raw materials for livestock farming is still very high, besides, the source of smuggled pigs from Thailand and Cambodia is quite large, causing supply to exceed demand, and prices are falling more and more.

Regarding the reason why animal feed prices have not decreased, Mr. Do Xuan Huy said that this is a general impact of the food and food production industry this year due to the impact of El Nino, which has reduced productivity and output. Meanwhile, the trend of pork consumption is changing significantly, consumers are reducing their use of pork, so supply exceeds demand.

Regarding the source of smuggled pigs, Mr. Do Xuan Huy said that the current price of Thai pigs is only about 39,000 - 40,000 VND/kg, they also face a surplus situation so they are looking for ways to sell to Vietnam. The government has also issued a telegram directing ministries and branches to take measures to prevent smuggled pigs, but it is impossible to monitor all the tricks of traders.

Mr. Huy emphasized: "If there were no illegal pork sources, domestic businesses could regulate, even if it did not cause pork prices to increase, at least they would break even and not suffer losses like now."
