Pig price situation in the North
On Saturday morning (April 19), the Northern region witnessed a slight decrease in live pig prices in some localities, reversing the trend compared to previous days.
Specifically, in Hung Yen and Thai Binh, the price has decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, currently at 69,000 VND/kg. This means that in the North, there is no locality maintaining the price of 70,000 VND/kg.
Pig price developments in the Central Highlands
The Central and Central Highlands regions continued to maintain stable prices in most provinces and cities. Only Lam Dong and Binh Thuan adjusted up 1,000 VND/kg, bringing it to 74,000 VND/kg - the highest in the region.
Traders here are buying live pigs at prices ranging from 68,000 to 74,000 VND/kg.
Fluctuations in pig prices in the South
In the South, Vinh Long and Soc Trang both recorded an increase of 1,000 VND/kg, up to 74,000 VND/kg. At the same time, Tra Vinh also reached the highest price of 75,000 VND/kg this morning.
The price of live pigs in the southern provinces is currently around 73,000 - 75,000 VND/kg. This is the region with the highest price in the country up to the present time.
With this price range, pig farmers can achieve a profit ranging from 15,000 to 20,000 VND/kg. Although the price has increased, according to experts, the possibility of reaching the peak of 80,000 VND/kg in the near future is very low.
The reason is believed to be that the domestic pork supply has stabilized again, while purchasing power in the market has not shown any signs of a breakthrough.
However, many traders said that pig prices are still likely to increase slightly in the next few days, especially in the Southern region and some Northern provinces with limited supply.
Slight price fluctuations may depend on actual consumption from slaughterhouses and people's demand during the upcoming holiday season.
In Ho Chi Minh City, the management board of Hoc Mon wholesale market - the city's largest pork wholesale market - said that the amount of pork entering the market in recent days has been maintained at around 347-348 tons per day.
Over the past week, the price of pork has been quite stable, with grade 1 ranging from 85,000 - 92,000 VND/kg and grade 2 ranging from 80,000 - 88,000 VND/kg.
“Consumption is very slow, so traders have not adjusted pork prices. Many traders expect purchasing power to increase slightly at the weekend and near the holidays when people shop to prepare for family parties,” said a representative of the Hoc Mon wholesale market management board.
