Accordingly, after a slight increase in price, live pigs in Thanh Hoa, Quang Binh and Ninh Thuan are being purchased at 58,000-59,000 VND/kg.

* In the South, pig prices remained stable across the board.

Currently, 57,000 VND/kg is the lowest transaction price recorded in Vinh Long province.

Slightly higher at 58,000 VND/kg are the provinces of Dong Thap, Tien Giang, Bac Lieu, Tra Vinh and Soc Trang. Live pigs in the remaining localities are traded at around 59,000-60,000 VND/kg.

The price of live pigs in the Southern region today fluctuates between 57,000-60,000 VND/kg.

* After a market sell-off due to the impact of African swine fever, prices have started to rise since mid-March as concerns about oversupply subsided.

After two years of heavy losses, many farmers have given up on herd restoration while livestock businesses have no plans to expand their herds. This has resulted in a market supply that is no longer as abundant as it was at the beginning of this year.

According to data from the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Planning and Investment), the total number of pigs in our country as of the end of May increased by about 2.6% compared to the same period last year. However, many large enterprises said that the actual estimated number is much lower due to disease and low prices, forcing many farmers to "hang up their pigsty".

“Compared to livestock enterprises, small-scale farmers will have more difficulty in restocking due to limited capital. Although the price of live pigs has improved in the second quarter, the demand for livestock will take a long time to recover,” said Mr. Pham Quang Anh, Director of the Vietnam Commodity Information Center.

Besides the shortage of supply, expectations of improved meat prices in the world market also support our country's live pig prices.
