Pig price news on April 19, 2025
On April 16, 2025, the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dak Nong province said that in early April 2025, an outbreak of African swine fever appeared in Dak Lao commune, Dak Mil district. The outbreak caused 57 pigs with a total weight of more than 1,600 kg to become sick and had to be destroyed.
Immediately after the discovery, the functional sector and local authorities quickly isolated, disinfected and implemented epidemic control measures according to regulations. To date, the outbreak has been completely controlled, with no new cases recorded. This is the first outbreak of African swine fever in Dak Nong in 2025.
Faced with this development, the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 2157, requesting departments, branches and localities to resolutely implement solutions to prevent and control epidemics in livestock and poultry. The province especially emphasized the need to not be subjective, especially with dangerous infectious diseases such as African swine fever, avian influenza, lumpy skin disease and rabies.
The live hog market on April 19, 2025 showed stability in the North, while the Central and Southern regions showed signs of improvement with some localities increasing prices. Dak Nong's successful control of the African swine fever outbreak is a positive signal, helping to strengthen the confidence of farmers in the region. However, farmers need to continue to strictly implement biosecurity measures to prevent the risk of disease recurrence, especially in the context of the possible increase in demand for pork during the year-end holidays.
