Pig price today 2/1

* The pig market in the Northern region is flat.

Accordingly, Lao Cai, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam and Ninh Binh provinces are purchasing live pigs at 50,000 VND/kg.

Live pigs in the remaining provinces and cities are traded at a common price of 51,000 VND/kg.

Today's live pig price in the North is around 50,000 - 51,000 VND/kg.

* Pig prices in the Central and Central Highlands regions also did not record any new changes.

Specifically, the lowest pork price in the region continues to be in the two provinces of Quang Tri and Khanh Hoa.

Meanwhile, traders in Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Lam Dong and Binh Thuan maintained purchasing live pigs at the highest price of VND50,000/kg. The remaining provinces had stable live pig prices at VND49,000/kg.

Currently, the price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 48,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.

* In the Southern region, pig prices "stand still" across the board.

Currently, the highest live pig trading price in the region is 52,000 VND/kg, recorded in Ca Mau province.

Traders in Kien Giang province continued to buy live pigs at 51,000 VND/kg. The remaining provinces and cities maintained stable transactions in the range of 49,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.

The price of live pigs in the Southern region today fluctuates between 49,000 - 52,000 VND/kg.

* According to the Department of Animal Husbandry - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, although the average price of animal feed ingredients for the whole year of 2023 decreased compared to 2022, the average price of complete mixed animal feed for pigs and poultry for the whole year of 2023 was still 0.7 - 3.5% higher than in 2022.

The main reason is that the price of finished animal feed has only been adjusted downward since June 2023 until now (about 6 price adjustments but the decrease each time is not much). For example, the price of finished animal feed for pigs is still 44.8% higher than the period before the Covid-19 pandemic (2020).

According to experts, in recent times, Vietnam’s livestock industry has developed rapidly due to the increasing demand for meat and dairy products. Along with that is the need to consume quality, nutritious animal feed to ensure growth and productivity.

However, currently, the supply of input materials for the Vietnamese animal feed industry is mostly imported - estimated to account for about 65% of the total domestic animal feed demand. In particular, according to animal feed industry experts, the imported vegetable protein raw materials account for nearly 90%, such as soybeans at nearly 100%.
