World market
According to the weekend update, the May 2025 natural gas futures contract (code NGK5) recorded a level of 3.245 USD/MMBtu, a slight increase of 0.001 USD, equivalent to 0.03% compared to the previous session. This modest increase reflects the general stable trend of the global energy market in the context of no major fluctuations in supply and demand.
Natural gas prices have remained around $3.2-$3.3/MMBtu over the past week, indicating that the market remains in balance. Factors such as stable US inventories, the end of winter, and lack of a surge in cooling demand in Asia are believed to be the main reasons for the lack of price volatility.
A slight weakening of the US dollar index also supported the modest increase in gas prices. A weak US dollar often stimulates the buying of commodities, including gas, from countries using other currencies.
Domestic market
In contrast to recent fluctuations in the petroleum market, domestic gas prices in April 2025 remained unchanged compared to March, as world CP prices remained at 610 USD/ton. This is the second consecutive month that gas prices have remained stable, bringing positive sentiment to consumers.
Specifically: In Hanoi , the listed price of Petrolimex gas for a 12kg cylinder is still 457,400 VND/cylinder, and for a 48kg cylinder it is 1,829,600 VND/cylinder (including VAT).
In the South, brands such as Gas South, A Gas, JP Gas, VT-Gas... keep the retail price of a 12kg cylinder at 475,400 VND, and a 45kg cylinder at 1,784,111 VND/cylinder.
According to representatives of distribution businesses, the reason for keeping gas prices unchanged is because CP prices are stable, exchange rates do not fluctuate strongly, and logistics costs are well controlled.
