The family of Mr. Ha Van Cuong, in Long Son commune, Dak Mil district (Dak Nong) has been involved in goat farming for more than 15 years. Mr. Cuong's family has invested in proper barns and planted grass as a source of food. Currently, Mr. Cuong's family is maintaining a herd of more than 200 goats.

In addition to using grass and bran as the main food, Mr. Cuong's family also uses jackfruit leaves and cassia leaves from their home garden and the surrounding area to feed their goats.
Thanks to that, Mr. Cuong significantly reduced his daily food costs. The monthly amount of goat manure is also composted, used to fertilize the family's crops or sold to increase income.
"Recently, the price of goat meat has increased sharply. I sold 50 goats for 148,000 VND/kg. At this price, farmers like me are very happy, because after deducting expenses, we still make a good profit," Mr. Cuong shared.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Van Liem, in village 10, Truong Xuan commune, Dak Song district (Dak Nong) has been raising goats for many years. Mr. Liem is maintaining a herd of 16 goats, of which 7 are breeding goats.
Mr. Liem shared: "Recently, my family sold 5 goats for 140,000 VND/kg. This is the highest price I have ever sold. My family is very excited."

Mr. Liem raises goats in cages, using natural food sources such as leaves from pruning fruit trees and other crops in the garden.
In particular, Mr. Liem uses leaves from living pepper poles such as goong and muong den... to both create shade for the pepper and provide an abundant source of food for goats.
Mr. Liem said that raising goats does not cost much in food because every time he trims branches and clears leaves, he has food for the goats, and it is clean, without worrying about chemical residue. Every season has its own food, and any tree can be used as food for goats.
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dak Nong province, the province currently has a total herd of about 33,600 goats, evenly distributed in districts such as Tuy Duc, Dak Mil, Dak Song, Cu Jut...
In recent years, goat farming has gradually become a suitable livelihood for many farming households because goats are easy to raise, easy to care for, and especially take advantage of food from gardens and fields.
Not only taking advantage of food sources, goat farming also brings double benefits to agricultural production through the use of goat manure to fertilize crops.
Goat manure is considered by farmers to be a quality organic fertilizer, helping to improve soil and supplement nutrients for perennial crops such as coffee, pepper, avocado, durian, etc.

Thanks to that, the model of raising goats combined with growing fruit trees, coffee, and pepper is increasingly being chosen by many farmers as an effective and sustainable direction.
Goat farming is showing positive signs, especially suitable for the farming conditions of many families. Along with that, recently, the provincial authorities have also encouraged households to develop goat herds to exploit and take advantage of available resources.
However, currently, breeders also need to pay attention because the high price of meat goats leads to an increase in the price of breeding goats, so they should not massively increase the herd when the price is at its peak, which can easily lead to a situation of supply exceeding demand and price reduction in the near future.
Instead, breeders need to be proactive in linking consumption, building hygienic barns, and increasing the value of goat herds.
The increase in goat prices after many years of deep decline is a positive signal for farmers to continue raising goats. Raising goats associated with organic agricultural production promises to continue to develop and bring income to the people of Dak Nong.
The price of goats in Dak Nong market is currently fluctuating from 140,000 - 180,000 VND/kg depending on the type of goat (male or female), weight and quality of the breed.
