On the morning of February 13, Mr. Bui Tan Dam, Chairman of the People's Committee of Vung Liem District (Vinh Long), said that local forces are continuing to reinforce the eroded section of the Co Chien River dike to protect the property of people in the Thanh Long islet area.
The embankment collapsed on the morning of February 12.
Accordingly, on the morning of February 12, in the Thanh Long islet area (Phuoc Ly Nhi hamlet, Quoi Thien commune, Vung Liem district), a landslide occurred on the Co Chien river embankment with a length of more than 20 m, 5-6 m deep into the bank, affecting the lives and houses of 33 households and 17.2 hectares of fruit gardens. Fortunately, there were no human casualties.
33 households and 17.2 hectares of fruit gardens were affected.
The cause is that the landslide area is located along the curved river (the landslide side), creating a vortex, causing land loss and subsidence, and is forecast to have the risk of spreading.
Authorities reinforce the dike
After the landslide occurred, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue (PCTT-TKCN) of Vinh Long province coordinated with the authorities of Vung Liem district and the People's Committee of Quoi Thien commune to survey the situation and extent of damage, mobilized dredgers to transport soil from other places in combination with coconut poles, cajuput piles... to temporarily fix and control water overflow into the orchard.
As of the morning of February 13, the work of reinforcing the dike section is still continuing.
In addition, the People's Committee of Quoi Thien commune directed the "4 on-site" force including militia and commune police to support people in dismantling structures, moving furniture, assets, and ornamental plants out of dangerous landslide areas for 8 households directly affected.
