Rubber prices opened the first session of the week on April 21 with a slight increase in some Asian markets. In Japan, the April futures contract increased by 1% to 298.2 yen/kg. The Thai market also recorded an increase of 0.5% to 73 baht/kg. In China, the price remained unchanged at 14,715 yuan/ton.
According to expert Jiong Gu from Yutaka Trusty Securities, rubber market sentiment has recently been affected by concerns about weakening global demand due to the impact of the tariff war.
However, he said prices may be nearing a bottom, especially in Japan, where inventories are low and domestic prices are relatively cheap. These factors could help the market recover next week, led mainly by spot contracts.
Another positive sign is the recent statement by US President Donald Trump, saying that the possibility of ending the retaliatory tariffs between the US and China is being considered. However, according to Reuters, high-level negotiations have not yet taken place, making the prospect of a comprehensive agreement still remote.
In addition, the Japanese yen traded around 142.38 yen to 1 USD this morning. The yen's appreciation makes yen-denominated assets less attractive to international investors.
Meanwhile, Singapore's financial markets have reopened after a weekend holiday.
Domestic rubber prices remain stable at many large enterprises. Phu Rieng Rubber Company continues to purchase mixed latex at VND400/DRC and water latex at VND440/TSC, unchanged from before.
At Ba Ria Rubber Company, the price of liquid latex is listed at 462 VND/TSC degree/kg, applied to latex with a TSC degree from 25 to under 30. Clotted latex with a DRC degree from 35 to 44% is being purchased at 13,600 VND/kg. In addition, the price of raw latex fluctuates between 16,900 and 18,200 VND/kg, depending on quality.
Meanwhile, Mang Yang Rubber Company announced that the average purchase price of latex ranges from 415 to 420 VND/TSC, depending on the type. Mixed latex is purchased at a range of 378 to 430 VND/DRC. These prices will be applied from April 15, 2025.
