Vietnam's coffee export prices increased sharply compared to the same period last year.

World coffee prices traded on the floor have recently tended to decrease. However, domestic coffee prices and Vietnam's export prices have remained relatively stable and increased sharply compared to the same period last year.

On April 20, according to information from many gardeners and businesses, the domestic price of green coffee beans was commonly traded at 129,000-132,000 VND/kg depending on the type, this level remained relatively stable compared to yesterday.

Similarly, in the export channel, Vietnam's coffee prices are still quite good. Specifically, according to the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA)'s report on Vietnam's coffee exports in the first half of April, the average export price of Robusta (Vietnam's main coffee variety) was 5,415 USD/ton - this is considered a quite high price, even a record high.

According to statistics, in the first half of April, in terms of green coffee alone, Vietnam exported 79,163 tons, with an export turnover of over 437.73 million USD, up 8.5% in volume and 68.8% in value over the same period last year.

Of which, Robusta coffee exports accounted for about 72,078 tons, with a turnover of over 390.27 million USD, up 6.5% in volume and 62.3% in value over the same period in 2024.

If calculated in the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam's overall coffee exports are estimated to reach about 2.8 billion USD. The export price of coffee increased by 73%, from 3,228 USD/ton (in the first quarter of 2024) to 5,614 USD/ton (in the first quarter of 2025).

On the contrary, due to the influence of many factors, especially the global trade war and the imposition of reciprocal tariffs by the US, coffee prices on international exchanges tended to decrease in the first half of April 2025.

Specifically, on the London Stock Exchange, the UK at one point dropped to around $4,800/ton, which is considered the lowest level in the past few months. Similarly, after reaching its peak, the price of Arabica coffee traded on the exchange also had a time when it dropped sharply.

However, many businesses believe that the above price reduction is not too worrying because it is a matter of timing, the average price is still quite good compared to last year. Therefore, if there is no unusual news about the market or about US tax policy, the short-term price is likely to remain stable.

According to Vicofa representative, it is currently the Robusta harvest season in Brazil, next month Arabica coffee (the main coffee of this country) will also begin to be harvested, however, the world coffee market price up to this point has not decreased as much as previously feared.

"That partly shows that the global supply is still fundamentally lacking compared to actual demand. Some major producing countries are negatively affected by weather factors, so output is not as high as expected."
