In order to affirm the role of books, newspapers and libraries in social life, build reading habits, connect and inspire students' passion for reading, and contribute to promoting the development of reading culture in the community, recently, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with the Department of Education and Training to organize the 2023 Ha Nam Province Children's Book Promotion Festival. At the Festival, teenagers and children representing districts, towns and cities promoted, introduced and shared their feelings about a good and useful book or a series of books. These could be books praising the Party, beloved Uncle Ho; the tradition of steadfast and indomitable struggle of the Vietnamese people; typical examples in building the country, in the struggle to protect the Fatherland and the sovereignty of the homeland's seas and islands; historical traditions, cultural identity, the beauty of the land and people of Ha Nam or any topic that you love, such as: natural beauty, scenic spots, traffic safety, life skills, environmental protection...
Each participating unit has a consistent content that ensures 3 main parts: Introducing the team, promoting books and talents. The competitions need to have a harmonious combination of elements of stage art, literature, visual propaganda with promoting books. The participation time of each team is no more than 25 minutes. Each main competition has many criteria for scoring and ranking. The criteria are very specific, clear and have a scale to ensure fairness in evaluation and awarding prizes. The 6 competing teams from 6 districts, towns and cities all comply with the requirements and rules of the festival. The teams all introduce the outstanding beauty of the locality where they live; introduce the outstanding activities of the library where they come to read books; introduce the festival's participating team with impressive illustrations through art forms such as: reciting poetry, singing, chanting, folk songs, skits combined with the use of supporting images, lights, and illustrative music.
The book introduction is the focus of each team. According to the theme plan of the festival, which is very broad, students can choose any book that they find meaningful and want to share with everyone, but at the provincial festival, teams are required to focus on introducing books about beloved Uncle Ho; the tradition of steadfast and indomitable struggle of the Vietnamese people; and typical examples in the struggle to protect the Fatherland.
According to this theme, the teams had works, specifically: "The story of 10 girls at Dong Loc crossroads" by the Phu Ly City Book Promotion and Introduction Children's Team; "Fierce childhood" by the Ly Nhan District Book Promotion and Introduction Children's Team; "Green lotus" by the Thanh Liem District Book Promotion and Introduction Children's Team; "People who live forever" by the Kim Bang District Book Promotion and Introduction Children's Team; "A time of fire and flowers" by the Binh Luc District Book Promotion and Introduction Children's Team; "Uncle Ho wrote a will and Uncle Ho's will" by the Duy Tien Town Book Promotion and Introduction Children's Team. These are all books with content suitable for the theme. The teams introduced the form and publishing elements of the document (book title, author, publisher, year of publication, book size, number of pages, cover layout, etc.) and correctly introduced the basic and core contents of the book. To highlight the content of the book, most teams exploited valuable, interesting and typical details, quotes, characters, and events of the work.

“Blue Lotus” is a familiar book to many teenagers and children and is a work that is almost available in school and community libraries. This is a novel about Nguyen Tat Thanh from birth until he decided to leave to find a way to save the country by writer Son Tung. Propaganda workers of Thanh Liem district used the words of Vice-Chancellor Nguyen Sinh Sac to his son for the last time when Nguyen Tat Thanh came to say goodbye to his father: “Don’t call me now. You must call: Fatherland! Compatriots! Go… go, my child”. And the students cleverly linked it to the words of Nguyen Phi Khanh when saying goodbye to his son Nguyen Trai: “Let’s save the country”. Or the words that have become the truth of patriotic youths such as Hero Ly Tu Trong: “The path of youth can only be the revolutionary path and cannot be any other path”. And the boundless love for the homeland and country of Ms. Vo Thi Sau: "No need to blindfold me, let my eyes see my beloved country until the last moment and I have enough courage to look straight into the muzzle of your gun" - excerpt from the work "Those who live forever" performed by the Kim Bang District Children's Propaganda and Book Introduction Team.
The special thing is that the propagandists of the teams all have good presentation skills, inspiring and attractive voices, and are talented in singing and reciting poetry, which have contributed to improving the effectiveness of propaganda. Here, we can mention Nguyen Thi Hoa (Kim Bang), Hoang Ngan Khanh and Tran Thanh Giang (Thanh Liem), Nguyen Nam Anh (Ly Nhan), Pham Khanh Huyen (Phu Ly)... The use of dramatization forms is also emphasized by the teams. The scenes, skits, and visual props are staged and created, creating liveliness and stimulating the teams' performances. The best performances include the teams of Ly Nhan, Phu Ly, and Thanh Liem. Some teams create their own scripts, direct, and design the dramatization stages, while others hire others to do it. Self-writing and self-performing may not be smooth, but they alone create a better effect than having professional choreographers, but scripts used for many types of competitions, performances, and festivals can unintentionally be counterproductive. In addition to using dramatization, the use of simulated images was also carefully selected by the teams to help supplement and enhance the effectiveness of the book promotion and introduction.
In addition to the first, second and third individual prizes for 12 outstanding propagandists, this year's festival also has movement prizes awarded to units that organize festivals extensively and effectively in the area. The teams that won movement prizes: Ly Nhan, Kim Bang and Phu Ly. This year's awards are also more diverse with thematic prizes: Best book introduction (Ly Nhan), excellent talent competition (Phu Ly), best script (Thanh Liem), most impressive team introduction (Binh Luc), best contact prize (Kim Bang), best information technology application (Duy Tien). This year's festival also shows the equality of the teams with 2 first prizes: Ly Nhan and Phu Ly teams; 3 second prizes: Kim Bang, Thanh Liem, Duy Tien and the third prize is Binh Luc team.
The festival was a success, the choice of the above theme contributed to spreading the emulation movement of studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style, including students. The books chosen by the teams are also the books that teach students about patriotism, gratitude to the heroes and martyrs who have devoted and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation, knowing how to live with purpose and noble ideals. However, if the theme was more open as originally planned, there would be many good books with noble humanistic elements, positive ways of living and students' perceptions of current life, in line with their dreams... that would be shared. And that would also spread the reading movement more widely as well as develop a reading culture among students themselves and in the community.
