Despite the perception that jobs could be replaced by artificial intelligence (AI) in the next decade, Gen Z workers are embracing AI to help them complete office tasks. And they’re very open about it.

According to Entrepreneur , a new survey released by Google assessed the AI usage habits of 1,005 full-time knowledge workers in the US, aged 22-39. Google calls this group young leaders, because they are either in leadership positions or aspire to be in this position at work.

AI writing capabilities appeal to Gen Z and Millennial workers. 70% of survey respondents said they used AI to help them write email responses, while 88% said AI helped them find the right tone when writing.

The survey found that 93% of Gen Zers aged 22-27 are using two or more AI tools, typically ChatGPT or Google Gemini, every week.

Meanwhile, 79% of Millennials aged 28-39 are doing the same. These AI users are leveraging the technology to take meeting notes, write emails and overcome language barriers.

They also weren’t shy about discussing their use of ChatGPT. More than half of those surveyed shared insights and experiences gained through AI with colleagues. Three in four have recommended AI tools with which they had positive experiences to their colleagues.

“Not only are young leaders embracing AI, they are also implementing the technology in meaningful ways, from improving communication with colleagues to freeing up time for work,” Yulie Kwon Kim, vice president of product at Google Workspace, said in a press release.

AI also helps develop leadership potential and holds great promise. About four-fifths of those surveyed want to use AI to become better managers and lead better teams.

The other half believe that AI has great potential to automate repetitive tasks, allowing them to focus on other important tasks. “These young leaders not only use AI as a tool to increase their performance but also as a catalyst to help them develop their careers,” Kim emphasized.

While AI can help advance careers, it also has the potential to replace jobs. A survey by technology education organization General Assembly found that 62% of Gen Zers believe AI will replace their jobs within the next 10 years.

Another study from Duke University found that 61% of large companies in the US plan to use AI to automate tasks previously performed by humans within the next year.
