New beauty queen causes controversy
On the evening of September 14, the final round of the Miss Universe Vietnam 2024 contest officially took place in Ho Chi Minh City. After the rounds, the judges selected the top 3 contestants to enter the behavioral round.
In the final result, beauty Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen surpassed the remaining competitors to win the crown of Miss Universe Vietnam 2024.
The first and second runner-up positions respectively belonged to beauties Nguyen Quynh Anh and Vu Thuy Quynh.
The new beauty queen will represent Vietnam at Miss Universe 2024, held in Mexico next November.
Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen was born in 1996 in Nam Dinh. In 2014, Ky Duyen was crowned Miss Vietnam. At the time of her coronation, she was a first-year student at the Foreign Trade University, Faculty of Foreign Economics.
After winning the crown, Ky Duyen worked in the entertainment industry as a model. She is also known as a coach of The Look Vietnam 2017, Vietnam Supermodel 2018, The Face Vietnam (season 4), Miss Fitness Vietnam 2022.
During her journey to participate in Miss Universe Vietnam 2024, Ky Duyen has caused controversy many times. The beauty once disappointed with the statement "not reading a whole book" when answering a behavioral question.
In the national costume competition, Ky Duyen caused controversy with an outfit inspired by Saint Giong.
Before the contest, Ky Duyen was also a familiar name in the Vietnamese entertainment industry. However, the beauty was involved in many scandals and controversies about her education, smoking, and rude treatment of her parents... Therefore, Ky Duyen's victory at Miss Universe Vietnam 2024 surprised many people.
The program is shortened but still... lengthy.
Due to the situation of overcoming the consequences of storms and floods in the Northern region, the performance at the contest was cut.
Runner-up Huong Ly was invited on stage to present 7 rather lengthy secondary awards.

The final top 16 were announced in turn, including: Nguyen Quynh Anh (SBD 041), Nguyen Diem My (SBD 012), Nguyen Thi Tra My (SBD 038), Luong Hoa Dan (SBD 027), Le Thi Kim Huyen (SBD 009), Phi Phuong Anh (SBD 034), Nguyen Thu Thao (SBD 007), Quach Tapiau Mai Ly (SBD 020), Dinh Thi Trieu Tien (SBD 024), Doan Tuong Linh (SBD 044), Vu Thuy Quynh (SBD 040), Pham Thi Dan Chi (SBD 030), Do Thu Ha (SBD 042), Doan Thi Thu Ha (SBD 029), Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen (SBD 039), Paris Bao Nhi (SBD 032). Of which, Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen is the contestant most loved by the audience and voted to be in the top 16.
Next, the contestants continued to compete in the traditional Vietnamese traditional dress competition. This competition replaced the swimsuit competition usually seen in the final nights.
Although the musical performances were shortened, the program was still long because it included many introductions, interviews with judges, guests, sponsors, etc. For nearly half of the broadcast time, the contestants did not appear on stage, causing the audience to shake their heads in dismay.
The top 10 list announced includes: Phi Phuong Anh, Dinh Thi Trieu Tien, Paris Bao Nhi, Nguyen Thi Tra My, Do Thu Ha, Nguyen Quynh Anh, Vu Thuy Quynh, Quach Tapiau Mai Ly, Doan Tuong Linh and Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen. The contestants entered the evening gown performance.
The Top 5 were named for the behavioral round: Paris Bao Nhi, Vu Thuy Quynh, Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen, Nguyen Quynh Anh, Quach Tapiau Mai Ly. The contestants only had 45 seconds to answer the judges' questions.
The list of top 3 contestants who entered the next round was announced: Nguyen Quynh Anh, Vu Thuy Quynh and Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen. The contestants received 1 common behavioral question with 45 seconds to answer to choose the owner of the Miss Universe Vietnam 2024 crown.
