Thrilled to follow 'robot warrior'

On the afternoon of January 6, FPT University Danang organized the "Vietnam Open Robotics Challenge" contest for the community of young talents passionate about science.

"Vietnam Open Robotics Challenge" is a free robot training, practice and competition program for high school students. The competition attracted 206 teams from high schools in 46 provinces and cities.

Vietnam Open Robotics Challenge with the participation of 206 teams from high schools

At the Da Nang bridge, the Organizing Committee selected the top 16 excellent teams from high schools in the Central Highlands region.

Held for the first time in Vietnam in the form of a robot competition, "Vietnam Open Robotics Challenge" aims to help young people who love technology acquire more knowledge.

The robot will operate automatically to complete the driving test round.

With 16 teams selected for the online round, the Organizing Committee (OC) divided the teams into 4 groups, each group had 4 teams, each team had 2 rounds, each round lasted 2 minutes and 30 seconds. The teams had 1 minute to prepare their cars to the starting area, ready to compete.

Robot enters the starting area and begins the competition.

When the referee gives the starting signal, the robot starts running until it reaches the finish line or the time limit of the round is up. The result of the round is calculated by the time the robot takes to complete the track.

According to the Organizing Committee's convention, a complete lap is counted from the starting area, the robot passes through the colored lines and returns. In case the team cannot complete a complete lap after 2 minutes and 30 seconds, the team's result is counted as 2 minutes and 30 seconds (the robot operates completely automatically throughout the race)...

The result of the competition is calculated by the time the robot takes to complete one lap of the course.

According to Thanh Nien reporters at the competition, besides the robots that operated very well automatically with high speed, stability and stuck to the track to complete the competition easily, there were still "faulty" robots, running off course, causing the competition to last longer and the results were not good.

Outside the competition area, hundreds of students, teachers and parents were excitedly cheering for the teams. The excitement was pushed to its peak as the robots ran through the sharp turns of the course to the finish line.

Candidates are stressed out trying to troubleshoot when the robot keeps slipping off the track.

Playground to satisfy passion for science

When the robot of Nguyen Khuyen Secondary and High School (Da Nang City) completed the driving test, team leader Huynh Nhat Nam (grade 10) said that the whole team had tried very hard to enter the "robot" race with competitors in the region.

"We are really looking forward to this tournament and have prepared carefully to participate seriously. No matter what the result is today, we are still satisfied because the whole team of 6 people tried very hard. This is a very meaningful and enjoyable playground for us," Nhat Nam said.

Each robot at the competition is allowed to have a different color, but all of them show the passion for science of high school students.

At the end of the competition, the Organizing Committee awarded the first prize to the team from Luong Van Chanh High School for the Gifted (Phu Yen) with 10 million VND in cash and a commemorative medal. The team from Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Da Nang) was awarded the second prize with 7 million VND and a commemorative medal.

The Organizing Committee also awarded 2 third prizes (each prize worth 5 million VND, a commemorative medal) and 3 consolation prizes.

The Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Da Nang) team was tense before the competition.

In addition, two teams from Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Da Nang) and Luong Van Chanh High School for the Gifted (Phu Yen) won the Inspire Award for the most inspiring team. At the same time, these two teams will be sponsored for the cost of all representative members and supported with robot KITs during their participation in the FIRST® Tech Challenge Vietnam tournament taking place on February 24 in Hanoi.

The Organizing Committee awarded second prize to the team of Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Da Nang).

"Vietnam Open Robotics Challenge" is the "key" for financially challenged teams to have the opportunity to reach the regional finals of FIRST Tech Challenge Vietnam, and further to the FIRST Tech Challenge world championship held in the US.

To win this race, teams need to design robots that can track and automatically move along the available track in the shortest time and with the fewest errors based on the robot KIT provided by the Organizing Committee.

However, for robots to operate effectively, there will be a big challenge in terms of the ability to flexibly use knowledge from theory to practice, professional skills as well as the ability to coordinate and work smoothly in groups.
